This week, Jerusalem's chief rabbi, Aryeh Stern, took a rare step and decided to bury a Muslim who was killed during a road accident in a Jewish cemetery after Muslim graves refused to bury him on charges of selling property to Jews in Jerusalem a few years ago.
Alaa Quresh was killed about two weeks ago in a serious road accident, killing six people after a bus and taxi collided. After his death, the Mufti of Jerusalem, Akrama Sabri, decided that a shark would not be buried in an Islamic cemetery because he was accused of selling property to Jews in Jerusalem. The Palestinians accused Quresh of "treason." The Mufti based his fatwas on a historic fatwa since 1935 for Hajj Amin al-Husseini, the main Arab leader in Israel under the British Mandate, the main opponent of Zionism.
After the grave incident, the bodies of the dead were moved to pray at the Al Aqsa Mosque, but the Waqf men opposed the entry of a shark. Other mosques in East Jerusalem also opposed praying on his body. The Qersh family, which has suffered difficulties and has been humiliated, was banned from establishing a mourning tent after the death of her son for the same reasons.
When Rabbi Stern knew the details of the incident, he wrote an extraordinary fatwa ordering the burial of a shark in a private cemetery for those who could not be buried in a cemetery in Jerusalem. He explained his decision: "Since Muslims refuse to bury a shark, we have the duty to correct the mistake and damage to human dignity, which was insulted only because he sold land to the Jews." Under the rabbi's decision, Kersh will be buried next week in a Jewish cemetery.

في خطوة استثنائية سيُدفن علاء قرش في مقبرة يهودية في القدس، بعد أن حظرت مقابر إسلامية دفنه فيها بتهمة "الخيانة"
هذا الأسبوع، اتخذ الحاخام الرئيسي في القدس، أريه شطيرن، خطوة نادرة وقرر دفن مسلم قُتِل أثناء حادث طرق في مقبرة يهودية، بعد أن رفضت المقابر الإسلامية دفنه بتهمة بيع ممتلكات لليهود في القدس قبل بضع سنوات.
قُتِل علاء قرش قبل نحو أسبوعين في حادث طرق خطير، أسفر عن مقتل ستة أشخاص بعد اصطدام حافلة وسيارة أجرة. بعد وفاته، قرر مفتي القدس، عكرمة صبري، أن قرش لا يستحق أن يدفن في مقبرة إسلامية لأنه متهم ببيع ممتلكات لليهود في القدس. اتهم الفلسطينيون قرش بـ “الخيانة”، واستند المفتي في فتاوته على فتوى تاريخية منذ عام 1935، للحج أمين الحسيني، الزعيم العربي الرئيسي في إسرائيل في عهد الانتداب البريطاني، المعارض الرئيسي للصهيونية.
بعد الحادثة الخطيرة نُقلت جثامين القتلى للصلاة عليها في المسجد الأقصى، ولكن عارض رجال الوقف إدخال جثمان قرش. كما وعارضت مساجد أخرى في القدس الشرقية تأدية الصلاة على جثمانه. وحُظر على عائلة قرش التي عانت من صعوبات وواجهت إهانات، من إقامة خيمة عزاء بعد وفاة ابنها للأسباب ذاتها.
عندما عرف الحاخام شطيرن بتفاصيل الحادثة، كتب فتوى استثنائية أمر فيها دفن قرش في مقبرة خاصة للذين لا يمكن دفنهم في مقبرة في القدس. وعلل قراره: “بما أن المسلمين يرفضون دفن قرش، علينا واجب تصحيح الخطأ والضرر الذي لحق بكرامة الإنسان، الذي تعرض للإهانة فقط لأنه باع أرض لليهود”. في ظل قرار الحاخام، سيُدفن قرش في الأسبوع القادم في مقبرة يهودية.
