Democrats’ election platform demands end to ‘forever wars’ — most of which were launched last time Biden held office

Democrats’ election platform demands end to ‘forever wars’ — most of which were launched last time Biden held office by aletho By Helen Buyniski | RT | August 17, 2020 The Democratic Party’s 2020 electoral platform includes a call to end the US’ “forever wars” - which sounds great, except that a Democratic president started many of those wars and the party has stonewalled efforts to end them. “Democrats know it’s time to bring nearly two decades of unceasing conflict to an end,” the platform, released in draft form on Monday and expected to be approved by Democratic leaders later this week, reads. It’s a relatively uncontroversial statement in itself: at nearly 19 years and counting, the US war in Afghanistan is the longest conflict in American history. The various satellite wars that have sprung up as part of the “War on Terror” have devastated large swathes of the Middle East - and the US itself, which has spent upwards of $6 trillion on fighting them while much of the country slid

Updegraff, Operation Resolute Support US intelligence saying IRAN is paying bounties to kill Americans in Afghanistan is pure parody by aletho By Scott Ritter | RT | August 18, 2020 It was Russia in June, now it’s Tehran. Don’t US analysts understand that Taliban fighters really don’t need any more motivation to target American troops? This is simply politicized (un)intelligence that isn’t fooling anyone. According to CNN, the Iranian government has paid “bounties” to the Haqqani network, a terrorist group with close links to the Taliban, for six attacks on US and coalition forces in Afghanistan in 2019, including one on December 11 which targeted Bagram Air Base, north of Kabul, which wounded four US personnel. This explosive allegation was contained in a Pentagon bri

Drug trafficking militias massacre social leaders in Colombia -By Lucas Leiroz

Drug trafficking militias massacre social leaders in Colombia by aletho By Lucas Leiroz | August 22, 2020 In Colombia, a terrible wave of violence affects the people and especially traditional indigenous communities. According to United Nations data, more than 40 murders of social leaders have occurred this year alone. Last Tuesday, August 18, three Indians of the Awá people were murdered in the municipality of Ricaurte, department of Nariño, while two young men were tortured and murdered in El Patía, department of Cauca, and a social leader, Jaime Monge, was also murdered in Villacarmelo, a rural area of Cali. On Saturday, 15, eight young men were shot in the municipality of Samaniego; on the 11th, five teenagers were murdered in Llano Verde and an Afro-Colombian social leader was murdered in Chocó; and on the 8th, in the municipality of Leiva, Nariño, two students who were attending school wer

US-led Coalition Withdraws Troops From Iraq’s Taji Military Base Amid Constant Rocket Attacks by aletho By Ilya Tsukanov - Sputnik - 23.08.2020 Iraq's parliament ordered US forces to withdraw from the country in January, following the drone strike assassination of a senior Iranian commander in Baghdad. On Thursday, in a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi, US President Donald Trump promised that US forces would be leaving the country "shortly." US forces in Iraq have formally handed the Coalition-occupied area of Camp Taji, central Iraq back to Iraqi security forces, with the handover ceremony signed Sunday, the Coalition has said in a statement. Describing the withdrawal from the facility as a move which allows the anti-Daesh Coalition to "shift its focus and role," the Coalition said that "the movement of... military personnel is part of a long-range plan coordinated with the Government of Iraq." "This is truly a historic day,

Hezbollah shoots down intruding Israeli drone

Hezbollah shoots down intruding Israeli drone by aletho Press TV - August 23, 2020 The Lebanese resistance group Hezbollah says it has shot down an Israeli drone that had violated the country’s airspace. The drone was downed near the border town of Aita al-Shaab, Hezbollah said in a statement. It also said that the drone is currently in the possession of the resistance group. The Israeli military later confirmed that the drone fell in the Lebanese territory, but added that there was no concern of information being leaked. The shoot-down of the Israeli drone came one day after Hezbollah Deputy Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem said the Lebanese resistance movement will neither allow Israel nor its sponsors the chance to launch an aggression against Lebanon, warning the Tel Aviv regime and its allies of a heavy price. “We will neither give Israel nor anyone who recognizes it the opportunity to launch an attack without paying the price. We will not capitulate to those who wish to rob

The announcement was immediately feted by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who met with Sudan’s transitional leader earlier this year in a diplomatic breakthrough after years of enmity. Sudan’s declaration came days after the United Arab Emirates on Thursday agreed to forge diplomatic ties with Israel, sparking feverish speculation over which Arab country would next transfor

Corporations and government use internet to control information By Philip Giraldi

Corporations and government use internet to control information By Philip Giraldi • Unz Review • August 18, 2020 Some Americans continue to believe that when they go to the internet they will get a free flow of useful information that will guide them in making decisions or coming to conclusions about the state of the world. That conceit might have been true to an extent twenty years ago, but the growth and consolidation of corporate information management firms has instead limited access to material that it does not approve of, thereby successfully shaping the political and economic environment to conform with their own interests. Facebook, Google and other news and social networking sites now all have advisory panels that are authorized to ban content and limit access by members. This de facto censorship is particularly evident when using the internet information “search” sites themselves, a “service” that is dominated by Google. Ron Unz has observed how when the CEO of Google Sunda

‘Regime Change’ in Belarus Looks Like an Objective of Both the Trump Administration and the Biden Campaign

‘Regime Change’ in Belarus Looks Like an Objective of Both the Trump Administration and the Biden Campaign by aletho By Adam Dick | Ron Paul Institute | August 14, 2020 It seems that whoever wins the presidency, United States foreign policy will keep chugging away at intervening across the world, including via “regime change” efforts. Over the last couple decades, targets for US-government-supported overthrow have included Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Ukraine, and Venezuela. Belarus also appears to be in the US government’s crosshairs. If its government holds back through January the effort seeking to topple it, Belarus looks sure to remain a US target for regime change during either a second term of President Donald Trump or a first term of President Joe Biden. On Monday, as revolutionaries in Belarus capital Minsk attempted to oust the Belarus government, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Democratic Party presidential nominee Joe Biden issued interchangeable statement
