Nuclear waste host communities exploited – by blackmail, ”noble sacrifice” and greed by Christina Macpherson

Nuclear waste host communities exploited – by blackmail, ”noble sacrifice” and greed by Christina Macpherson Governments prefer a distant disadvantaged, impoverished, preferably indigenous community to host nuclear wastes. Governments then promise the health, education etc services that they should be providing anyway. Then there’s the noble goal of ”sarifice” – providing a benefit to the nation. Then there’s greed, as selected local dignitaries and businesses get attractive bribes to promote the dump plan to the community. Eventually, the community becomes dependent on the nuclear industry, – which happens also in other situations, such as in nuclear energy and nuclear weapons plants. Nuclear power concerns outlast decommissioning, Great Lakes Echo,   By Cameryn Cass 4 Feb 22, Editor’s note: This is part of a package of two articles and a podcast about nuclear power in Michigan. As Michigan and other states gradually move away from coal and other brown energy sources, ...

Rich enough to own an electric car? Have some free electricity!

Rich enough to own an electric car? Have some free electricity! by aletho By John Ellwood | TCW Defending Freedom | January 29, 2022 IT IS reported that 21 councils have found a solution to the soaring cost of energy: a source of free electricity which they are providing to wealthy owners of electric vehicles. One of the councils that has made this startling discovery is Lancaster District Council. Their website proudly proclaims ‘The council is providing free electricity’ for electric vehicle owners.‘ A spokesperson for the well-represented Green Party on the council was unapologetic about how they prioritised the distribution of the ‘free electricity’. When asked why they favoured the provision of free fuel to the owners of already subsidised Teslas and Mercedes-EQs, rather than giving it to residents of sub-standard housing who were unable to heat their homes, she replied in a rather abrupt manner: ‘Don’t you know there’s a Climate Emergency! For goodness sake, it’s on the BBC...

Leakage of liquid from frozen soil wall caused by misalignment of pipe joints TEPCO by dunrenard

Leakage of liquid from frozen soil wall caused by misalignment of pipe joints TEPCO by dunrenard January 25, 2022 Leakage of liquid from frozen soil wall caused by misalignment of pipe joints TEPCO As part of the measures to deal with contaminated water at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, liquid used to freeze the ground leaked from the "frozen earth wall" that was installed to prevent underground water from flowing into the buildings. The Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) is investigating the cause of the damage and replacing the pipes. On the 16th of this month at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, an estimated 4 tons of liquid at minus 30 degrees Celsius, which is used as a "refrigerant" to build a "frozen earth wall" to freeze the ground around the buildings, leaked. The leakage was estimated to be about 4 tons. Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) investigated the leak and found that the joints between the pipes that feed the ref...

Clear vision needed for future of still-evacuated Fukushima areas by--- dunrenard

Access is restricted to the "difficult-to-return zone" in Futaba, Fukushima Prefecture.   Clear vision needed for future of still-evacuated Fukushima areas by dunrenard September 16, 2021 More than a decade after the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant accident, there remains more than 30,000 hectares of land where the evacuation order is still in place and is not expected to be lifted any time soon. The government recently announced a plan to rebuild ravaged communities in these areas near the crippled plant with high levels of radiation, known as “kitaku konnan kuiki” (difficult-to-return zone). Under the plan, the government will decontaminate the land and houses of local residents who want to return to their homes so that the order can be lifted by the end of the 2020s. Initially, the evacuation order covered more than 110,000 hectares. The measure was lifted for some 80,000 hectares by March last year. In 2017 and 2018, the government thrashed out a plan to designate som...

The Media Is Lying About Greenland and Climate Change By Vijay Jayaraj

The Media Is Lying About Greenland and Climate Change By Vijay Jayaraj  by aletho:Real Clear Energy | September 13, 2021 The mainstream media is hell-bent on instilling climate fear among the masses. This means that they can never get over their obsession with weather events in the Arctic, which is one of their favorite subjects for projecting a climate catastrophe. The Greenland Ice Sheet has been of great interest to climate alarmists. Any small change in ice sheet mass is promoted in the media as a product of man-made climate change. Last week, media outlets across the globe claimed that there has been rain for the first time at the Greenland summit. “Rain fell at the normally snowy summit of Greenland for the first time on record,” read CNN’s headlines. Others went a step further and declared it a sign of climate doomsday. “Rain On Greenland Ice Sheet, Possibly A First, Signals Climate Change Risk,” read another headline. Unfortunately, for the mainstream media, climate ...

Joe Biden Pledges to Make Solar Panels More Environmentally Toxic

Joe Biden Pledges to Make Solar Panels More Environmentally Toxic by aletho By Eric Worrall | Watts Up With That? | March 25, 2021 If you thought Arsenic doped Silicon or Gallium Arsenide on your roof was bad, how about solar cells made of organic Lead compounds, or Cadmium Telluride? Biden’s quest for cheaper solar is exploring some truly terrifying photovoltaic innovations. U.S. pledges to slash solar energy costs by 60% in a decade March 25 (Reuters) – The Biden administration on Thursday set a goal to cut the cost of solar energy by 60% over the next decade as part of an ambitious plan to decarbonize the United States’ power sector by 2035. The U.S. Department of Energy said the goal accelerates its previous utility-scale solar cost target by five years. For the U.S. power grid to run entirely on clean energy within 15 years, a key pillar of President Joe Biden’s climate change agenda, solar energy will need to be installed as much as five times faster than it is today, DOE s...

The Covid Lockdown and CO2 By Kip Hansen

The Covid Lockdown and CO2 By Kip Hansen | Watts Up With That? | May 18, 2020 There has been a lot of talk in the press and from talking heads claiming that the Covid lockdown has “reduced emissions” (power plants cutting back on power generations, factories closed, populations ordered to stay home, most airplanes grounded) and talk encouraging that government Covid recovery packages, should support only companies and projects “which decouple economic growth from GHG emissions”. The “Build Back Better” movement. It is true that emissions from human sources – automobiles, factories, power plants, etc. – have been reduced by the multitude of nations that have sacrificed their economies in the [misguided] belief that doing so “saves lives”. But the idea that the Worldwide Covid Lockdown has had any effect on atmospheric CO2 concentrations is simply not true. Despite the dreams of the anti-human element of the Climate Cabal, which seems to have been hoping that the Covid Lockdown wo...

Climate change: Germany's conservatives mull doubling air travel tax

Climate protesters turned out at Stuttgart airport in July Climate change: Germany's conservatives mull doubling air travel tax Germany's ruling conservatives have proposed doubling taxes on domestic flights, as part of a wider package to cut CO2 emissions. The decision was taken by the leadership of the Christian Democrats (CDU), who form a coalition with the Christian Social Union (CSU) and the Social Democrats (SPD). Tax of €7.38 (£6.5; $8.1) per ticket is currently levied on domestic flights. Connecting flights that are part of long-haul journey will be exempt. Climate change: German MPs want higher meat tax Faster pace of climate change is 'scary' In its policy document (in German), the CDU also says that engines not powered by fossil fuels should be free of aviation tax. Climate protesters turned out at Stuttgart airport in July "We will invest, together with the aviation industry, to make electric-powered flight standard for short-haul flights an...

Carbon dioxide soars to record-breaking levels not seen in 800,000 years

Carbon dioxide soars to record-breaking levels not seen in 800,000 years By Yasemin Saplakoglu  There is more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere than there has been for 800,000 years — since before our species evolved. On Saturday (May 11), the levels of the greenhouse gas reached 415 parts per million (ppm), as measured by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Mauna Loa Observatory in Hawaii. Scientists at the observatory have been measuring atmospheric carbon dioxide levels since 1958. But because of other kinds of analysis, such as those done on ancient air bubbles trapped in ice cores, they have data on levels reaching back 800,000 years. [8 Ways Global Warming Is Already Changing the World] During the ice ages, carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere were around 200 ppm. And during the interglacial periods — the planet is currently in an interglacial period — levels were around 280 ppm, according to NASA. But every story has its villains: Humans are burnin...

Exercise Won't Fix the Obesity Epidemic, Researchers Argue Anne Harding

Exercise Won't Fix the Obesity Epidemic, Researchers Argue Anne Harding ,LiveScience.com•April 27, 2015 The food industry has helped push the belief that people's sedentary lifestyles are solely to blame for widespread obesity, three researchers argue in a new editorial. And by doing so, the industry has deflected attention from the role that sugary drinks and junk food play in making people fat, said Dr. Aseem Malhotra and his colleagues. Malhotra is an honorary consultant cardiologist at Frimley Park Hospital in the United Kingdom and science director of the advocacy group Action on Sugar. "The public health messaging around diet and exercise, and their relationship to the epidemics of type 2 diabetes and obesity, has been corrupted by vested interests," the researchers write in their editorial, published today (April 22) in the British Journal of Sports Medicine. They liken the food industry's tactics to those that "Big Tobacco" used to obscure...

Paris fire: Ten dead and many injured at apartment block

Paris fire: Ten dead and many injured at apartment block Ten people including a baby have died in a fire at an eight-storey building in south-western Paris, fire service officials say. More than 30 people - including six firefighters - were injured. One person is in a serious condition. Fifty people were evacuated by ladders from the blaze in the upmarket 16th arrondissement. Investigators believe the fire was started deliberately; a woman has been detained, the Paris prosecutor said. French President Emmanuel Macron said the country "had woken up to tragedy", and praised the fire services for their courage. Rue Erlanger is a residential street close to the Parc des Princes football stadium and the Roland-Garros tennis venue. How did people escape? The fire started on the second floor and spread across the block built in the 1970s - unlike many of the older, classic Parisian buildings nearby - shortly after 01:00 (00:00 GMT), forcing some residents to scramble on ...
