China supports Iran amid escalating tension with US
China has supported Iran amid escalating tensions with the United States, and its top diplomat has told Iran's foreign minister that his country opposes imposing unilateral sanctions on Tehran.
Reuters reported Friday (May 17th), and supports Tehran's efforts to protect its interests.
Tensions have risen between the United States and Iran in recent days, raising fears of a possible war, especially as America sends military reinforcements to the Gulf and threatens Iran to retaliate against any aggression against it.
"The two countries need to strengthen communication and coordination in light of the seriousness of the situation and its rapid development," Foreign Minister and State Councilor Wang Yi told Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Jawad Zarif during a meeting in Beijing on Friday.
"China resolutely opposes US unilateral and so-called cross-border powers, understands the current situation and concerns of the Iranian side and supports the Iranian side in its legitimate defense of its rights and interests," Wang said.
"China appreciates Iran's full implementation of the nuclear agreement and its intention to abide by it," Wang said, while Foreign Ministry quoted Zarif as saying: "Iran has no intention of withdrawing from the nuclear agreement."

أعلنت الصين دعم إيران وسط تصاعد التوتر مع أمريكا، وقال كبير دبلوماسييها لوزير الخارجية الإيراني إن بلاده تعارض فرض العقوبات الأحادية على طهران.
ذكرت ذلك وكالة "رويترز" اليوم الجمعة 17 مايو / آيار، وتدعم جهود طهران لحماية مصالحها.
وتصاعدت حدة التوتر بين الولايات المتحدة وإيران في الأيام الماضية مما زاد المخاوف من احتمال نشوب حرب، خاصة في ظل توجيه أمريكا حشودا عسكرية إلى الخليج، وتهديد إيران بالرد على أي اعتداء ضدها.
ولفتت "رويترز" إلى قول وزير الخارجية وعضو مجلس الدولة الصيني وانغ يي، لوزير الخارجية الإيراني محمد جواد ظريف خلال اجتماع في بكين، اليوم الجمعة، إن الدولتين بحاجة إلى تعزيز التواصل والتنسيق بينهما في ظل خطورة الموقف وسرعة تطوره.
وبحسب وزارة الخارجية الصينية، قال وانغ: "تعارض الصين بحزم تطبيق الولايات المتحدة عقوبات أحادية وما يسمى (بالصلاحيات العابرة للحدود) وتتفهم الموقف الحالي ومخاوف الجانب الإيراني وتدعم الجانب الإيراني في دفاعه المشروع عن حقوقه ومصالحه".

وأضاف وانغ: "الصين تقدر تطبيق إيران للاتفاق النووي بالكامل ونيتها الالتزام به"، بينما نقلت وزارة الخارجية الصينية عن ظريف قوله: "إيران لا تعتزم الانسحاب من الاتفاق النووي".
