Meet the new chief of staff of the Israeli army, General Aviv Kochavi, who will take office today
This morning (Tuesday), General Aviv Kochavi will be the new chief of staff of the Israeli army. Kokhavi, 54, married with three daughters, began his military career in 1982, when he enlisted in the Paratrooper Brigade, where he was trained to fight. After passing the officers' course, he worked among other positions, a division officer and a battalion officer. After completing his first degree in philosophy, he was appointed Operations Officer in the Paratroopers Brigade
In 1998, after completing his second degree at Harvard University in the United States, he became the Eastern Division Officer of the Liaison Unit with Lebanon. During the second intifada (2001-2003), Kokhafi was a paratrooper brigade officer. In addition to a group of additional officers from the field units, Kokhafi was interested in working against Palestinian sources of terror in refugee buildings and camps, despite being densely populated and difficult to fight

In 2002, Kokhafi led an operation by the Paratroopers Brigade to take control of the Balata refugee camp in Nablus, where soldiers entered the camp by launching a combined attack, thus injuring many terrorists with almost no injuries. Kokhafi later headed the paratrooper brigade in Operation Defensive Shield and other operations against the Palestinian infrastructure in the West Bank.
Between 2004 and 2005, Kokhafi served as Gaza battalion officer and later was appointed Chief of Staff Operations. At the end of 2010, Kokhafi was appointed to the rank of Major General and appointed the head of the Israeli intelligence division. He also achieved successes. For example, he developed a technique for gathering information and intelligence research. As part of this position, Kokhafi headed intelligence efforts in Operation Cloud Pillar and the Sword Shelf in the Gaza Strip
In 2014, Kokhafi began serving as a Northern Army officer in the army, and in May 2017 became Deputy Chief of Staff, Gadi Ayznkot. In October 2018, the Israeli Defense Minister, Avigdor Lieberman, chose him as a candidate for the leadership of the Israeli army

هذا الصباح (الثلاثاء)، سيتولى الجنرال أفيف كوخافي منصب رئيس الأركان الجديد للجيش الإسرائيلي. كوخافي ابن 54 عاما، متزوج ولديه ثلاث بنات، بدأ طريقه العسكرية في عام 1982، عندما تجند للواء المظليين، الذي تدرب فيه على القتال. بعد أن اجتاز بتفوق دورة الضباط، عمل من بين مناصب أخرى، ضابط قسم وضابط كتيبة. بعد إنهاء دراسته للقب الأول في الفلسفة، عُيّنَ ضابط قسم العمليات في لواء المظليين.
في عام 1998، بعد إنهاء دراسته للقب الثاني في جامعة هارفارد في الولايات المتحدة، أصبح ضابط اللواء الشرقي التابع لوحدة الارتباط مع لبنان. أثناء الانتفاضة الثانية (2001-2003)، كان كوخافي ضابط لواء المظليين. إضافة إلى مجموعة ضباط إضافيين من الوحدات الميدانية، اهتم كوخافي بالعمل ضد مصادر الإرهاب الفلسطينية في مبان ومخيمات للاجئين، رغم كونها مناطق مدنية مكتظة وصعبة للقتال.

في شهر 2002، ترأس كوخافي عملية قام بها لواء المظليين للسيطرة على مخيّم بلاطة للاجئين في نابلس، دخل خلالها جنود إلى المخيم من خلال شن هجوم مدمج، وهكذا نجحوا في الإضرار بالإرهابيين الكثيرين دون وقوع إصابات تقريبا. وترأس كوخافي لاحقا لواء المظليين في عملية “الدرع الواقي” وعمليات أخرى ضد البنى التحتية الإهاربية الفلسطينية في الضفة الغربية.
بين عامي 2004 و-2005، شغل كوخافي منصب ضابط كتيبة غزة، وبعد ذلك عُين رئيس شعبة العمليات في هيئة الأركان. في نهاية عام 2010، حصل كوخافي على رتبة لواء وعُين رئيس شعبة الاستخبارات الإسرائيلية، فحقق نجاحات فيها أيضا، مثلا، طوّر تقنية لجمع المعلومات والأبحاث الاستخباراتية. في إطار هذا المنصب، ترأس كوخافي الجهود الاستخباراتية في عمليتي “عمود السحاب”، و”الجرف الصامد”، في قطاع غزة.

في عام 2014، بدأ كوخافي بشغل منصب ضابط لواء الشمال في الجيش، وفي أيار 2017، أصبح نائب رئيس الأركان، غادي أيزنكوت. فى أكتوبر 2018 قام وزير الدفاع الإسرائيلي، أفيغدور ليبرمان، بإختياره كمرشح لقيادة الجيش الإسرائيلي.
