Trump proposes protection for immigrant groups in exchange for congressional approval for the funding of Mexico's wall
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - US President Donald Trump on Saturday proposed providing temporary protection to illegal immigrants arriving in the United States as well as other migrant groups facing deportation, in return for Congress funding the controversial border wall with Mexico.
In a move to end the government closure crisis, US President Donald Trump suggested Saturday evening that he provide temporary protection to illegal immigrants who have arrived in the United States and be tolerant of migrants facing deportation in return for Congress funding the controversial border wall with Mexico.
Trump's proposal, in a televised address, aims, according to the American president, to "break the deadlock" of the paralysis of some federal administrations for nearly a month. But House Speaker Nancy Pelosi rejected the proposal.
 Trump plans to issue an "important announcement" on Saturday about the government closure
"I will issue an important declaration on the humanitarian crisis on our southern border and the (government) closure on Tuesday afternoon at 3 pm (local time), directly from the White House," Trump wrote on Twitter earlier on Saturday, without giving further details.
About 800,000 federal employees and many contractors were affected by the partial government shutdown, the longest in US history.

اقترح الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترامب السبت أن يقدم حماية موقتة للمهاجرين غير الشرعيين الذين وصلوا إلى الولايات المتحدة أطفالاً، وكذلك لمجموعات أخرى من المهاجرين الذين يواجهون الترحيل، في مقابل أن يمول الكونغرس الجدار الحدودي المثير للجدل مع المكسيك.
في خطوة لإنهاء أزمة الإغلاق الحكومي، اقترح الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترامب مساء السبت أن يقدم حماية موقتة لمهاجرين غير شرعيين وصلوا إلى الولايات المتحدة أطفالا، وأن يتهاون مع المهاجرين الذين يواجهون الترحيل، وذلك في مقابل أن يمول الكونغرس الجدار الحدودي المثير للجدل مع المكسيك.
وهذا المقترح الذي قدّمه ترامب في خطاب متلفز، يهدف بحسب الرئيس الأمريكي إلى "الخروج من مأزق" الشلل الذي يسود قسمًا من الإدارات الفدراليّة منذ نحو شهر تقريبًا. غير أن رئيسة مجلس النواب الديموقراطية نانسي بيلوسي رفضت هذا المقترح.

وكتب ترامب على تويتر في وقت سابق من السبت "سأصدر إعلانا هاما بشأن الأزمة الإنسانية على حدودنا الجنوبية والإغلاق (الحكومي) بعد ظهر غد الساعة الثالثة بعد الظهر (بالتوقيت المحلي)، مباشرة من البيت الأبيض"، من دون أن يقدم مزيدا من التفاصيل.
وتأثر نحو 800 ألف موظف فدرالي والعديد من المتعاقدين بالإغلاق الحكومي الجزئي وهو الأطول في تاريخ الولايات المتحدة.
