Sudanese police dispersed protesters in Kassala and arrested the son of a prominent figure
Sudanese authorities on Wednesday arrested the son of a prominent Islamic leader after participating in a protest rally in the eastern city of Kassala, where police used tear gas to disperse the demonstrators.
The sources said that the authorities arrested on Wednesday evening, Mohammed al-Nazir Karuri after participating in demonstrations in the market of Kassala, capital of the Sudanese state, which bears its name.
And Muhammad al-Nazir al-Karouri, the son of Sheikh Abdul Jalil al-Nazir al-Karuri, a member of the Sudan Scholars Association, known for his negative attitudes towards the protests in the country. Last December, the Carrion described what he called "advocates and burning people's property" as "agents of foreign circles and Mossad."
On Wednesday, hundreds of protesters marched to the streets of Kassala, chanting "freedom, justice and peace" before police intervened and dispersed the demonstration using tear gas.
The demonstration was the first in Kassala state capital since the protest movement began four weeks ago.
In December 2017, Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir imposed a state of emergency on the state of Kassala as part of a campaign to collect unlicensed weapons, covering all the states of the country, and was later extended several times.

اعتقلت السلطات السودانية، اليوم الأربعاء، نجل قيادي إسلامي بارز عقب مشاركته بمظاهرة احتجاجية في مدينة كسلا شرق البلاد، حيث استخدمت الشرطة الغاز المسيل للدموع لتفريق المتظاهرين.
وذكرت المصادر أن السلطات اعتقلت، مساء اليوم الأربعاء، محمد النذير الكاروري بعد مشاركته في تظاهرات بسوق كسلا، عاصمة الولاية السودانية التي تحمل اسمها.
ومحمد النذير الكاروري نجل الشيخ عبد الجليل النذير الكاروري، عضو هيئة علماء السودان، المعروف بمواقفه السلبية إزاء الاحتجاجات في البلاد. وفي ديسمبر الماضي، وصف الكاروري من سماهم "دعاة وحرق ممتلكات الشعب" بأنهم "عملاء للدوائر الأجنبية والموساد".
وخرج مئات المحتجين، اليوم الأربعاء، إلى شوارع المدينة كسلا، مرددين "حرية، عدالة وسلام"، قبل أن تتدخل الشرطة وتفرق التظاهرة باستخدام الغاز المسيل للدموع.
وهذه التظاهرة هي الأولى في عاصمة ولاية كسلا منذ بدء حركة الاحتجاج في البلاد قبل أربعة أسابيع.
وفي ديسمبر العام 2017، فرض الرئيس السوداني، عمر البشير حالة الطوارئ على ولاية كسلا في إطار حملة لجمع السلاح غير المرخص، عمت جميع ولايات البلاد، وتم تمديدها لاحقا عدة مرات.
