Protests continue and arrests reach 700 demonstrators
Deputy Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said around 31,000 people joined the "yellow jackets" protests Saturday across France.
The security official, according to quoted by the agency, "Agence France Presse," that 700 people were arrested against the backdrop of the demonstrations
"At the national level, including Paris, more than 700 people have been arrested in protests involving some 31,000 demonstrators across the country, including 8,000 in Paris," Nunez said.
Earlier, Agence France-Presse reported that "the French authorities arrested 278 people shortly after the start of the yellow jackets."
French Prime Minister Eduard Philippe announced on Thursday that some 89,000 security personnel would be deployed across the country in preparation for Saturday's protests, including 8,000 in Paris, as well as the deployment of armored vehicles on the streets.
"We are faced with people who have not come here to protest but to sabotage and we would like to have the means to rein in them," Philip said
About 10 armored vehicles will be used for the gendarmerie, the first time they have been used since 2005, when riots broke out on the outskirts of Paris, Philippe said
The "yellow jackets" movement began more than three weeks ago in protest against the government's decision to increase fuel taxes, but the demands of the movement were not limited to the tax, which is the straw that broke the camel's back, but extended to the living situation and high prices and the decline in purchasing value and the deterioration of services the public

قال نائب وزير الداخلية، لوران نونيز، إن نحو 31 ألف شخص انضموا إلى احتجاجات "السترات الصفراء"، اليوم السبت، في شتى أنحاء فرنسا.
وذكر المسؤول الأمني، بحسب ما نقلت عنه وكالة "فرانس برس"، أنه تم اعتقال 700 شخصا على خلفية التظاهرات.
وأوضح نونيز "على المستوى الوطني بما في ذلك باريس، تم اعتقال أكثر من 700، في الاحتجاجات التي شارك فيها نحو 31 ألف متظاهر، في أنحاء البلاد بما في ذلك 8 آلاف في باريس".
وكانت وكالة "فرانس برس" قد ذكرت، في وقت سابق، أن "السلطات الفرنسية أوقفت 278 شخصا بعد وقت قصير من بدء مظاهرات السترات الصفراء".
وكان رئيس الوزراء الفرنسي، إدوار فيليب، قد أعلن أول من أمس الخميس، أنه سيتم نشر نحو 89 ألفا من رجال الأمن في أنحاء البلاد، استعدادا لاحتجاجات يوم السبت، منهم ثمانية آلاف في باريس، فضلا عن نشر عربات مدرعة في الشوارع.
وقال فيليب "نواجه أناسا لم يأتوا إلى هنا للاحتجاج بل للتخريب ونود أن يكون لدينا الوسائل التي تكبح جماحهم".
وأضاف فيليب أنه سيتم استخدام نحو عشر عربات مدرعة تابعة لقوات الدرك وهي المرة الأولى التي تستخدم فيها تلك العربات منذ عام 2005 عندما اندلعت أعمال شغب في ضواحي باريس.
وكانت حركة "السترات الصفراء" قد بدأت منذ أكثر من ثلاثة أسابيع اعتراضا على قرار الحكومة زيادة الضرائب على الوقود، إلا أن مطالب الحركة لم تنحصر فقط بالضريبة التي تعتبر القشة التي قصمت ظهر البعير، بل امتدت لتشمل الوضع المعيشي وغلاء الأسعار وهبوط القيمة الشرائية وتدهور الخدمات العامة.
