Pentagon warns Ankara against attacking Kurdish allies in northern Syria
The US Defense Department on Wednesday warned Ankara against launching an attack against Washington's Kurdish allies in northern Syria, saying it would be "unacceptable".
"Any unilateral military action in northeastern Syria, especially in an area where there may be American crews, is very worrying," Pentagon spokesman Sean Robertson said, adding that "any such action would be considered Unacceptable".
The US warning comes shortly after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that his country would carry out within a few days a new operation in Syria against US-backed Kurdish guerrillas.
The Kurdish People's Protection Units responded to Erdogan's threats by saying that any Turkish operation would affect the battle against the Da'ash organization.

البنتاغون يحذر أنقرة من مهاجمة حلفائه الأكراد شمالي سوريا

حذرت وزارة الدفاع الأمريكية (البنتاغون)، يوم الأربعاء، أنقرة من شن هجوم ضد حلفاء واشنطن الأكراد في شمال سوريا، معتبرة أن ذلك سيكون أمرا "غير مقبول".

ويأتي التحذير الأمريكي بعيد إعلان الرئيس التركي، رجب طيب أردوغان، أن بلاده ستنفذ في غضون أيام عملية جديدة في سوريا ضد المقاتلين الأكراد المدعومين من الولايات المتحدة.

وردت وحدات حماية الشعب الكردية على تهديدات أردوغان بالقول إن أي عملية تركية ستؤثر على المعركة ضد تنظيم "داعش".

وتمثل وحدات حماية الشعب الكردية، المكون الأبرز في "قوات سوريا الديموقراطية"، المدعومة من الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية، والتي تخوض حملة ضد تنظيم "داعش" شمال شرق سوريا.

وتشنّ هذه القوات المؤلفة من فصائل كردية وعربية، منذ بداية سبتمبر الماضي، هجوما، بدعم من التحالف الدولي بقيادة واشنطن، لطرد تنظيم "داعش" من هذا الجيب الواقع في ريف دير الزور الشرقي بمحاذاة الحدود العراقية.

أردوغان يعلن عن عملية عسكرية لتطهير شرقي الفرات من الإرهاب

علن الرئيس التركي رجب طيب أردوغان اليوم، أن القوات التركية ستطلق عملية عسكرية شرقي الفرات في سوريا خلال أيام، مؤكدا أن قوات جيشه لن تستهدف القوات الأمريكية هناك.

وقال أردوغان: "أكدنا ونؤكد أننا سنبدأ حملتنا لتخليص شرق الفرات من المنظمة الإرهابية الانفصالية في غضون أيام".

واعتبر الرئيس التركي أن بلاده جنّبت مدينة إدلب شمال سوريا أزمة إنسانية كبيرة، مؤكدا أنه آن الأوان لتطهير شرق الفرات من الإرهاب.

وبصدد الاتفاق التركي الأمريكي حول خريطة الطريق في منبج، قال أردوغان إنه "تم اتباع تكتيك مماطلة لا يمكن إنكاره في منبج من الولايات المتحدة، وما زال متبعا في الوقت الراهن".

وأضاف: رغم أن 80-85% من سكان منبج من العرب، إلا أن المدينة واقعة الآن تحت سيطرة التنظيمات الإرهابية التي تتصرف بغطرسة هناك. الولايات المتحدة غير قادرة على إخراج الإرهابيين من هناك، فيما نحن سنخرجهم.

ولفت الرئيس التركي إلى أنه لا يوجد هناك أي تهديد لـ"داعش" في سوريا وأن ما يحكى هو عبارة عن شائعات، وتابع: "لم يعد هناك وجود لتهديد تنظيم "داعش" الإرهابي في سوريا. وما يذكر في هذا الخصوص مجرد أقاويل لا أساس لها... هناك حديث عن استمرار نشاط "داعش" في مساحة تقدر بـ150 كم مربع، وإذا كان هذا كل ما في الأمر، فإننا مستعدون".
