Saudi Arabia welcomes Sweden agreement

Saudi Arabia, which is leading a military alliance in Yemen since 2015, has voiced support for an agreement reached between the Huthis and the Yemeni government backed by Riyadh during talks in Sweden, an official statement said.
The Saudi monarch, King Salman bin Abdul Aziz, and his son, Crown Prince Mohammed, who also serves as defense minister, support a political solution to the ongoing conflict since 2014, the statement said.
An official source at the Saudi Foreign Ministry said that "handing over the port of Hodeidah is an important step to help alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the brotherly Yemeni people and to deliver aid to those who deserve it."
The Yemeni government and the Houthis in Sweden reached an agreement to withdraw combat troops from the city of Hodeidah on the Red Sea coast and its vital harbor, and cease fire in the province, which is witnessing confrontations on several fronts.
The parties to the conflict also agreed to understand the situation in the city of Taiz, which is controlled by government forces and surrounded by the Houthis, and to exchange about 15,000 prisoners and hold a new round of talks next month to develop frameworks for a peace ending the war since 2014.
The Yemen war began in 2014 and escalated with Saudi Arabia's intervention at the head of the military alliance in March 2015 in support of the recognized government after the Huthis seized large areas, including Sanaa.
About 10,000 people have been killed in the Yemeni conflict since the start of coalition operations, while famine threatens 14 million people.

أعربت السعودية التي تقود تحالفا عسكريا في اليمن منذ 2015 الجمعة عن تأييدها للاتفاق الذي تم توصل إليه بين الحوثيين والحكومة اليمنية المدعومة من الرياض خلال محادثات في السويد، حسبما جاء في بيان رسمي.
وقال البيان الذي نشرته وكالة الأنباء السعودية الرسمية إن العاهل السعودي الملك سلمان بن عبد العزيز، ونجله ولي العهد الأمير محمد الذي يتولى أيضا منصب وزير الدفاع، يؤيدان الوصول إلى حل سياسي للنزاع المتواصل منذ 2014.
وأكد مصدر مسؤول في وزارة الخارجية السعودية أن "تسليم ميناء الحديدة يعتبر خطوة هامة للمساعدة في رفع المعاناة الإنسانية عن الشعب اليمني الشقيق وإيصال المساعدات إلى مستحقيها".
وتوصلت الحكومة اليمنية والحوثيون في السويد إلى اتفاق لسحب القوات المقاتلة من مدينة الحديدة على ساحل البحر الأحمر ومينائها الحيوي، ووقف إطلاق النار في المحافظة التي تشهد مواجهات على جبهات عدة.
كما اتفق طرفا النزاع على التفاهم حيال الوضع في مدينة تعز (جنوب غرب) التي تسيطر عليها القوات الحكومية ويحاصرها الحوثيون، وعلى تبادل نحو 15 ألف أسير، وعقد جولة محادثات جديدة الشهر المقبل لوضع أطر لسلام ينهي الحرب المستمرة منذ 2014.
وبدأت حرب اليمن في 2014، ثم تصاعدت مع تدخل السعودية على رأس التحالف العسكري في آذار/مارس 2015 دعما للحكومة المعترف بها بعد سيطرة الحوثيين على مناطق واسعة بينها صنعاء.
وقتل نحو 10 آلاف شخص في النزاع اليمني منذ بدء عمليات التحالف، بينما تهدد المجاعة نحو 14 مليونا من سكان البلاد.
