يقول تقرير لموقع CounterPunch الأمريكي إن واشنطن تسببت بارتفاع معدلات السرطان في العراق بنسبة تزيد على 600% نتيجة قصفها له بأكثر من 970 قنبلة وصاروخ إشعاعي مشبع بمادة اليوارنيوم المنضب. ويضيف الموقع أن أمريكا استخدمت السرطان كسلاح ضد الشعب العراقي. ومن أكثر السرطانات التي سببتها القنابل والأسلحة الأمريكية سرطان اللوكيميا، أي ابيضاض الدم. ويطلق الأطباء العراقيون على هذا المرض الخطير “الموت الأبيض”. ويقول أحد الأطباء العراقيين الذين قابلهم الموقع الأمريكي إن حوالي أربعين بالمائة من العراقيين حول مدينة البصرة وحدها فقط سيصابون بالسرطان نتيجة المواد الأمريكية المسرطنة التي خلفتها الأسلحة الأمريكية الرهيبة. جدير بالذكر أن الأسلحة التي استخدمها الأمريكيون في فيتنام كالعنصر البرتقالي ما زالت تفتك بالفيتناميين حتى هذه اللحظة، ومن المتوقع أن تمكث في التراب لأكثر من ثلاثمائة سنة. ومن آثارها المدمرة على المواليد الجدد أن معظمهم يولد بتشوهات مرعبة. وعلى ضوء التجربة الفيتنامية يعتقد باحثون عراقيون أن البلاد مقبلة على كوارث صحية هائلة في المستقبل لا يعلم مداها إلا الله.
