Mauritanian president to visit Syria on Jan. 10
Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz will visit Syria on January 10, the official news agency Sputnik quoted an informed source in Nouakchott as saying Saturday.
The source said: "There was a tendency to be Ould Abdel Aziz, the first Arab president to visit Syria before the visit of Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, but the visit was postponed until after the end of a holiday spent by the president in the desert of Tiras in northern Mauritania
The Sudanese president, Omar al-Bashir, had visited Damascus and met with his Syrian counterpart, Bashar al-Assad, on December 16.
Bashir's visit came after Arab parliament called on the League of Arab States to return to joint action with Syria. Noting that the organization "can move to re-represent Syria in its institutions after the suspension of activities seven years ago
After hosting al-Bashir, Damascus did not rule out the possibility of other Arab heads of state visiting Syria
Mauritania has not severed its diplomatic relations with Syria and its embassy has been active in Damascus during the years of the Syrian crisis

الرئيس الموريتاني يزور سوريا في 10 يناير المقبل
سيقوم الرئيس الموريتاني، محمد ولد عبد العزيز، بزيارة إلى سوريا في العاشر من يناير المقبل، حسبما نقلت وكالة "سبوتنيك" الإخبارية الروسية عن مصدر مطلع في نواكشوط، اليوم السبت
وقال المصدر: "كان هناك توجه بأن يكون ولد عبد العزيز أول رئيس عربي يزور سوريا قبل زيارة الرئيس السوداني عمر البشير لها، لكن جرى إرجاء الزيارة إلى ما بعد انتهاء عطلة يقضيها الرئيس في صحراء تيرس شمالي موريتانيا".
وكان الرئيس السوداني، عمر البشير، قد زار دمشق والتقى نظيره السوري، بشار الأسد، يوم 16 ديسمبر.
وجاءت زيارة البشير بعد أن دعا البرلمان العربي جامعة الدول العربية، إلى العودة للعمل المشترك مع سوريا. مشيرا إلى أن المنظمة "يمكنها التحرك لإعادة تمثيل سوريا في مؤسساتها بعد تعليق أنشطتها قبل 7 سنوات".
وبعد استضافة البشير، لم تستبعد دمشق الرسمية إمكانية زيارات رؤساء عرب آخرين إلى سوريا.
يذكر أن موريتانيا لم تقطع علاقاتها الدبلوماسية مع سوريا واستمر نشاط سفارتها لدى دمشق في سنوات الأزمة السورية.
