وأضاف: "بالطبع نحن ضد التدخل، وعلى الشعب والقيادة في السعودية أن يقرروا مثل هذه الأسئلة بأنفسهم. لقد اتخذ الملك قرارا، ولا يمكنني حتى أن أتخيل على أي أساس سيتدخل شخص في أمريكا في مثل هذه القضية ويفكر في من ينبغي أن يحكم المملكة العربية السعودية، الآن أو في المستقبل. هذه مسألة سعودية".

وزعمت المصادر أن هناك نقاشا بينهم حول إمكانية أن يتولى الأمير أحمد بن عبد العزيز (76 عاما) الشقيق الأصغر للملك سلمان وعم ولي العهد العرش بعد وفاة الملك.
