تلقى السيد الرئيس/ عبد الفتاح السيسي اليوم اتصالاً هاتفياً من الرئيس التنزاني/ جون ماجوفولي.
وصرح السفير/ بسام راضي المتحدث الرسمي باسم رئاسة الجمهورية أن رئيس تنزانيا أعرب خلال الاتصال عن تقديره للعلاقات التاريخية التي تجمع بين مصر وتنزانيا، مثمناً مستوى العلاقات الثنائية بينهما، خاصة ما يتعلق بالتعاون الاقتصادي والتبادل التجاري، ومشيداً في هذا الصدد بالاستثمارات المصرية في تنزانيا، في ضوء رسو عطاء تصميم وتشييد سد "ستيجلر جورج" في حوض نهر "روفيجي" في تنزانيا على شركة المقاولون العرب المصرية، وهو المشروع الذي تعتبره الحكومة التنزانية من أهم المشروعات القومية لتوليد الكهرباء.
ومن جانبه أعرب السيد الرئيس عن اعتزاز مصر بما يربطها بتنزانيا من أواصر أخوة وصداقة وتعاون، مرحباً في هذا الصدد برسو عطاء سد "ستيجلر جورج" على شركة مصرية، ومؤكداً سيادته تطلع مصر لتعزيز العلاقات مع تنزانيا في مختلف المجالات في ضوء المقومات الاقتصادية الكبيرة بالبلدين، في ضوء حرص مصر الدائم على دعم جهود التنمية في دول حوض النيل الشقيقة.
وأضاف المتحدث الرسمي أن الرئيس "ماجوفولي" وجه الدعوة للسيد الرئيس لوضع حجر الأساس لمشروع إنشاء السد التنزاني، معرباً عن تطلعه لأن يضع السيد الرئيس مشروع إنشاء السد تحت إشراف سيادته أسوة بالمشروعات القومية الكبرى الجاري تنفيذها في مصر، وهو ما رحب به السيد الرئيس مؤكداً أن بناء السد سيتم على نحو تفتخر به مصر وتنزانيا والقارة الأفريقية، وسيمثل نموذجاً يحتذى به للتعاون بين الأشقاء الأفارقة.
أعلن مدير التسويق لمجموعة السويدي إلكتريك المصرية أحمد حسونة، أن رئيس الوزراء المصري مصطفي مدبولي، سيحضر غدا توقيع اتفاقية بـ3 مليارات دولار لإنشاء سد "ستيجلر جورج" في تنزانيا.
وأضاف حسونة في تصريحات على هامش انعقاد المعرض الأفريقي الدولي للتجارة البينية، اليوم الثلاثاء أن "بناء السد سيتم عن طريق شركة السويدي والمقاولون العرب لتوليد 2100 ميغاوات".
وقالت حسونة إن السد يتكون من 9 توربينات وكل توربينة تساهم في توليد 230 ميغاوات وسيتم تنفيذ المشروع على 4 سنوات.
وكانت وزارة الموارد المائية والري المصرية، قد أكدت أن سد "ستيجلر جورج" فى تنزانيا خارج حوض النيل، وأن لا تأثير له على مصر.
ويبلغ ارتفاع السد 134 مترا، وطول بحيرة السد 100 كم، ومساحة بحيرة التخزين 1350 كم2، والسعة التخزينية 34 مليار متر مكعب، ويقام على ضفاف نهر الروفيجي وهو نهر داخلى طوله 600 كيلو متر وإيراده يتراوح من 10 إلى 58 مليار متر مكعب سنويا.
مصر تصدر بيانا بشأن سد تنزانيا الجديد ومخاطره
أكدت وزارة الموارد المائية والري المصرية أن سد "ستيجلر جورج" فى تنزانيا خارج حوض النيل، وأن لا تأثير له على مصر.
وقالت الوزارة، في بيان لها، إن مصر ليست ضد أن تبني الدول الإفريقية الأخرى سدود لديها، والدليل هو تعاونها مع تنزانيا لبناء سد عملاق، مؤكدة أنها تقف بجانب تنمية أي دولة بالقارة السمراء وتدعمها، طالما أنها لن تضر بمصالح الدول المجاورة.
وأشارت إلى أن مصر تتعاون أيضا مع جنوب السودان وصممت سدا هناك، بالإضافة لمشروع سد أوغندا، وغيرها، وهو بمثابة رسالة قوية أن مصر لا تعارض بناء السدود في الدول الإفريقية، بل تساعد في إنشائها، ما لم تضر بمصالحها.
وأوضح رئيس قطاع مياه النيل أحمد بهاء، أن السد يقام على ضفاف نهر الروفيجي وهو نهر داخلى طوله 600 كيلو متر وإيراده يتراوح من 10 إلى 58 مليار متر مكعب سنويا،  ما يعنى أن السد لا يؤثر على المياه في مصر لأنه بعيد كل البعد عن نهر النيل.
ويتكون سد "ستيجلر جورج" من سد رئيسي يبلغ ارتفاعه 134 مترا ،وطول بحيرة السد 100 كم، ومساحة بحيرة التخزين 1350 كم2، والسعة التخزينية لتصل إلى 34 مليار متر مكعب ،وتكلفة بناء السد بحوالي 3.6 مليار دولار، وتوليد الكهرباء فقط بقدرة 2100 ميجاوات.
