President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's office said Friday that the release of the Iranian tanker Grace 1 was a diplomatic victory for Iran.
The agency quoted the Iranian news agency quoted Vaezi as saying that the detention of the tanker was a pirate maritime was made by a US decision where it faced a backlash from the whole of Iran.
"What the legal experts in Iran have shown is that the sanctions imposed by the European Union against Iran will harm him and not Iran, which is looking for maritime navigation in free waters," he said.
 The agency quoted a government spokesman on Friday as saying that Iran had offered no guarantees to secure the release of its tanker held in Gibraltar, stressing that the tanker Grace 1 was not destined for Syria as its detainees claimed.
Gibraltar Prime Minister Fabian Picardo said the release order had been issued after written guarantees from Tehran that the ship would not unload its oil in Syria, in violation of EU sanctions.
"Iran has not offered any guarantees for the release of the tanker Grace 1," Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi was quoted as saying by the Tasnim news agency.

اعتبر رئيس مكتب الرئيس الايراني محمود واعظي، اليوم الجمعة، أن الافراج عن ناقلة النفط الايرانية "غريس1" انتصارا دبلوماسيا لإيران.
ونقلت وكالة تسنيم الإيرانية للأنباء عن واعظي قوله إن احتجاز الناقلة كان قرصنة بحرية تمت بقرار أمريكي حيث واجهت ردة فعل عكسية من إيران برمتها.
وأعرب واعظي عن ارتياحه للإفراج عن الناقلة قائلا إن "ما قام به خبراء القانون في إيران أثبت أن العقوبات التي فرضها الاتحاد الأوروبي ضد إيران ستلحق به الضرر وليس بإيران التي تتطلع إلى الملاحة البحرية في المياه الحرة.
 وكانت الوكالة نقلت عن متحدث باسم الحكومة الإيرانية اليوم الجمعة قوله إن إيران لم تقدم أي ضمانات لتأمين الإفراج عن ناقلتها المحتجزة في جبل طارق مؤكدا أن الناقلة جريس 1 لم تكن متجهة إلى سوريا كما زعم محتجزوها.
كان فابيان بيكاردو رئيس وزراء جبل طارق الخاضعة للحكم البريطاني صرح أن أمر الإفراج عن الناقلة صدر بعد ضمانات مكتوبة من طهران بأن السفينة لن تفرغ حمولتها من النفط في سوريا وهو ما ينتهك عقوبات فرضها الاتحاد الأوروبي.

ونقلت وكالة تسنيم عن عباس موسوي المتحدث باسم وزارة الخارجية الإيرانية قوله "لم تقدم إيران أي ضمانات للإفراج عن الناقلة جريس1...كما قلنا من قبل فإن وجهة الناقلة لم تكن سوريا ولو كانت سوريا فلا علاقة لأحد بالأمر".
