Pakistan PM warns of possible war with India
ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan warned on Tuesday of a possible war between his country and India over the revocation of a constitutional article that has changed the special status of Kashmiris.
Speaking to parliament, Khan said he feared Kashmiris, angry at India's decision, could launch an attack on Indian security forces and blame New Delhi for Pakistan.
He added that if India responds with a military strike inside his country, it opens the possibility of war.
In February, an attack on Indian-administered Kashmir killed 40 Indian soldiers. India responded by carrying out a military strike inside Pakistan, blaming a Pakistani group.
Pakistan, in turn, responded by shooting down two Indian aircraft.
On Monday, Pakistan condemned an Indian decision to abolish a constitutional provision granting the part of the disputed territory a special status to authorize the development of laws in isolation from the central government.
Pakistan said the measure was "illegal and violates UN resolutions".
Since 1947, Jammu Kashmir has a special status allowing it to enact its own laws in isolation from the central government and prohibit Indian citizens from outside the area from owning land or moving into it.
New Delhi's decision comes amid skirmishes on the border between the two parts of the region, following an Indian military buildup in its part, and instructions to evacuate tourists and "Hindu pilgrims" from the region on the grounds of "security threat."
The people of Jammu and Kashmir have been demanding independence from India and joining Pakistan since the two countries gained independence from Britain in 1947 and shared by the Muslim-majority region.

ومنذ 1947 يتمتع إقليم "جامو كشمير" بوضع خاص يسمح له بسن قوانينه الخاصة بمعزل عن الحكومة المركزية ويمنع المواطنين الهنود من خارج المنطقة بتملك الأراضي فيه أو الانتقال للسكن ضمنه.
ويأتي قرار نيودلهي في ظل حدوث مناوشات على الحدود الفاصلة بين شطري الإقليم، عقب حشد عسكري هندي في الجزء الخاضع لها، وتعليمات بإخلاء السياح و"الحجيج الهندوس" من المنطقة بدعوى وجود "تهديد أمني".
ويطالب سكان جامو وكشمير بالاستقلال عن الهند، والانضمام إلى باكستان، منذ استقلال البلدين عن بريطانيا عام 1947، واقتسامهما الإقليم ذي الغالبية المسلمة.
وفي إطار الصراع على كشمير، خاضت باكستان والهند 3 حروب أعوام 1948 و1965 و1971، ما أسفر عن مقتل نحو 70 ألف شخص من الطرفين. -
