ISIS confirms the killing of its leader Baghdadi and appoints his successor
Days after US President Donald Trump announced the death of Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in an operation in Syria, the extremist group on Thursday confirmed the news, adding that a new successor had been appointed.
ISIS has confirmed the death of its leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, who was declared dead by US President Donald Trump a few days ago in a US operation in northwestern Syria.
He named the extremist organization, according to a more than seven-minute audio recording on jihadi accounts on the Telegram application.
"We mourn to you (...) the emir of the faithful and the caliph of the Muslim sheikh, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi," the statement said.
In the audio recording, the extremist organization declared that the "Shura Council" pledged allegiance to Abu Ibrahim al-Hashemi al-Qurashi as "the emir of the believers and the successor to the Muslims."
There are no details about the new leader of the group and his nationality is unknown, according to the Iraqi expert in the Islamic State, Hisham al-Hashemi.
The world's most wanted man, responsible for numerous atrocities and crimes in Iraq and Syria and bloody attacks in many countries, has been repeatedly declared in recent years.
However, US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that Baghdadi was killed during a US military operation in the Syrian province of Idlib.
Hours later, the SDF, which said it was involved in the killing of Baghdadi as a result of intelligence cooperation with Washington, announced the killing of extremist spokesman Abu Hassan al-Muhajir in another operation in the Jarablus area in northern Syria.

بعد أيام من إعلان الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترامب مقتل زعيم تنظيم "الدولة الإسلامية" أبو بكر البغدادي في عملية في سوريا، أكد التنظيم المتطرف الخميس الخبر مشيرا إلى أنه تم تعيين خلف جديد له.
أكد تنظيم "الدولة الإسلامية" الخميس مقتل زعيمه أبو بكر البغدادي، الذي أعلن الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترامب قبل أيام مقتله في عملية أمريكية في شمال غرب سوريا.
وعيّن التنظيم المتطرف، وفق ما جاء في تسجيل صوتيّ مدّته أكثر من سبع دقائق على حسابات جهادية على تطبيق "تلغرام".
وأعلن الخبر متحدث باسم التنظيم "ننعى إليكم (...) أمير المؤمنين وخليفة المسلمين الشيخ المجاهد أبا بكر البغدادي (...) وننعى إليكم المتحدث الرسمي للدولة الإسلامية الشيخ المجاهد أبا الحسن المهاجر اللذين قتلا في الأيام الماضية".
وفي التسجيل الصوتي، أعلن التنظيم المتطرف أن "مجلس شورى" بايع أبا إبراهيم الهاشمي القرشي "أميرا للمؤمنين وخليفة للمسلمين".
ولا تتوفر تفاصيل حول الزعيم الجديد للتنظيم حتى أن جنسيته غير معروفة، وفق ما قال الخبير العراقي المتخصص في تنظيم "الدولة الإسلامية" هشام الهاشمي.
وسبق أن أُعلن مرارا خلال السنوات الأخيرة مقتل المطلوب الأول في العالم الذي يعتبر مسؤولا عن فظاعات وجرائم عدة في العراق وسوريا واعتداءات دامية في دول كثيرة.
إلا أن الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترامب أعلن الأحد مقتل البغدادي خلال عملية عسكرية أمريكية في محافظة إدلب السورية.
وبعد ساعات، أعلنت قوات سوريا الديمقراطية، التي قالت إنها شاركت في عملية مقتل البغدادي نتيجة تعاون استخباراتي مع واشنطن، مقتل المتحدث باسم التنظيم المتطرف أبو حسن المهاجر في عملية أخرى في منطقة جرابلس في شمال سوريا.
