Japanese Emperor Akihito admitted in a video message to the nation that he feared "difficulties" he might face in performing his duties because of his aging and deteriorating health.
The 82-year-old is the second picture of the 82-year-old emperor since he took the throne in 1989.
"I'm over 80 years old and still healthy, but when I think about the gradual deterioration of my health, I am concerned that I may have difficulty in performing my duties as a symbol of the state," the emperor said in his 10-minute message, broadcast on Monday 8 August. أعرب ولي العهد الياباني، ناروهيتو، الذي سيصبح إمبراطورا في الربيع، عن رغبته في البقاء قريبا من الشعب، كما كان والده الإمبراطور الحالي أكيهيتو.
وقال ناروهيتو خلال مؤتمر صحافي عقد هذا الأسبوع وتم نشره في وسائل الإعلام مساء الجمعة بمناسبة عيد ميلاده الـ59 "عندما أفكر في الأشهر المقبلة أشعر بالإجلال".

ويخلف ناروهيتو والده أكيهيتو مطلع مايو القادم بعد أن يكون الإمبراطور الحالي (85 عاما) تنازل عن العرش بعد ثلاثة عقود، بموجب قانون استثنائي يسمح له باتخاذ هذه الخطوة خلال حياته لصالح نجله البكر.
وأوضح أن على اليابان عدم التقليل من التجاوزات التي ارتكبها جيشها مطلع القرن العشرين وخلال الحرب العالمية الثانية في عهد جده هيروهيتو، الذي توفي في عام 1989.
ودعا الإمبراطور المقبل ناروهيتو الرأي العام إلى التعاطف مع زوجته ماساكو التي تعاني من وضع صحي غير مستقر، والتي أصيبت بالاكتئاب قبل أكثر من 10 سنوات ولا تزال تخضع للعلاج، قائلا "لن تتمكن من تحمل كل الأعباء بين ليلة وضحاها حين سيتغير وضعها وستزداد واجباتها الرسمية، لكنها (ماساكو) ستواصل جهودها لتتحسن، وآمل في أن يتابع الشعب الياباني فترة نقاهتها بعطف ومراعاة".
وكان ناروهيتو دعا بانتظام إلى نموذج إمبراطوري أكثر انفتاحا، وهو موضوع في غاية الأهمية بالنسبة له، لأن زوجته عانت من قساوة البروتوكول، بحسب مراقبين.
إمبراطور اليابان يلوح برغبته في التخلي عن العرش
أقر الإمبراطور الياباني أكيهيتو في رسالة مصورة إلى الأمة، بأنه يخشى من "صعوبات" قد يواجهها لدى أدائه مهامه بسبب تقدمه في العمر وتدهور صحته.
يذكر أنها الرسالة المصورة الثانية التي يتوجه بها الإمبراطور البالغ من العمر 82 عاما، إلى الأمة منذ توليه العرش في عام 1989.
وتابع الإمبراطور في رسالته التي كانت مدتها 10 دقائق، وبثت يوم الاثنين 8 أغسطس/آب: " لقد تجاوزت الـ80 عاما، وما زالت صحتي جيدة. لكنني عندما أفكر في التدهور التدريجي لصحتي، أشعر بقلق من أنني قد أواجه صعوبة لدى أدائي مهامي كرمز للدولة بكل طاقاتي، كما كنت أقوم بها قبل اليوم".
وأعرب الإمبراطور عن أمله في يستمر بأداء مهام الإمبراطور في البلاد بشكل مستقر وبلا انقطاع. وذكر بأن هناك إمكانية لإنشاء نظام وصايا على العرش، في حال كان الإمبراطور عاجزا عن أداء مهامه بسبب المرض.
وكانت قنوات تلفزيونية يابانية قد تحدثت في الشهر الماضي عن رغبة الإمبراطور في التخلي عن العرش، وهو أمر غير مسبوق في تاريخ اليابان الحديث، علما بأن القوانين اليابانية لا تتضمن أحكاما لتنظم عملية تسليم العرش لولي العهد قبل وفاة الإمبراطور.
بدوره قال رئيس الوزراء شينزو آبي أن الحكومة "ستناقش" الموضوع بشكل مكثف.
وفي رسالة مصورة، بثها التلفزيون اليابان، قال آبي: "نظرا لتقدم الإمبراطور في العمر وحجم مهامه الحالية المتعلقة بالمشاركة في الفعاليات العامة، أظن أن علينا أن نفكر في قلق الإمبراطور وأن ندرس بعناية ما يمكننا أن نقوم به".
يذكر أن لإمبراطور أكيهيتو يتربع على العرش منذ وفاة والده هيروهيتو في عام 1989. وفي حال تخلي  الإمبراطور الحالي عن العرش، من المتوقع أن يحل ابنه الأكبر ناروهيتو مكانه.
