"Qatar has received an invitation to attend the summit of the Arab League and the European Union to be held in Egypt," a Qatari foreign ministry source told the Russian news agency RIA Novosti, adding: "We are saddened, but we were not surprised that the Egyptian government used the invitation as a means to achieve the objective. In the language and format used ".
He pointed out that unlike invitations to other Arab heads of state, Qatar's letter was not addressed to its Emir and sent to the Greek Embassy in Doha instead of the Permanent Mission of Qatar to the League of Arab States.
"The message is designed as a reminder of the summit and not in line with the official invitation," the State Department spokesman said. He described Egypt's conduct in some of these calls as "unprofessional," but pointed out that despite this, Qatar would participate in the summit at the level of its permanent representative at the Arab League, "fully committed to joint Arab activities and cooperation with EU partners."
The first summit of the Arab League and the European Union is scheduled for February 24-25 in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.
Egypt, along with Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, has cut ties with Qatar for more than a year and a half, accusing it of supporting terrorism and interfering in the internal affairs of these countries.

وقال مصدر في وزارة الخارجية القطرية لوكالة نوفوستي الروسية: "تلقت قطر دعوة لحضور قمة جامعة الدول العربية والاتحاد الأوروبي التي ستعقد في مصر. نشعر بالحزن، لكننا لم نندهش من أن الحكومة المصرية استغلت الدعوة كوسيلة لتحقيق الهدف. إن الدعوة الواردة من مصر تنتهك البروتوكول الدولي باللغة والصيغة المستخدمة فيها".
وأشار إلى أنه خلافاً للدعوات الموجهة إلى رؤساء الدول العربية الأخرى، فإن رسالة قطر لم توجه إلى أميرها وأرسلت إلى السفارة اليونانية في الدوحة بدلاً من البعثة الدائمة لقطر في جامعة الدول العربية.
وأضاف المتحدث باسم وزارة الخارجية "الرسالة مصممة على طراز تذكير بالقمة، ولا تتوافق مع الدعوة الرسمية". ووصف سلوك مصر في بعض هذه الدعوة بـ "غير المهني"، لكنه أشار إلى أنه على الرغم من ذلك، ستشارك قطر في القمة على مستوى ممثلها الدائم في الجامعة العربية، حيث أنها "تلتزم تماما بالأنشطة العربية المشتركة والتعاون مع الشركاء في الاتحاد الأوروبي".
ومن المقرر عقد القمة الأولى للجامعة العربية والاتحاد الأوروبي يومي 24-25 فبراير في شرم الشيخ بمصر.
وقطعت مصر، إلى جانب المملكة العربية السعودية والبحرين والإمارات العربية المتحدة، علاقاتها مع قطر منذ أكثر من عام ونصف العام، متهمة إياها بدعم الإرهاب والتدخل في الشؤون الداخلية لهذه الدول، فيما نفت قطر ذلك مرارا.
