Turkish parliament speaker announces resignation
Turkish parliament speaker Ben Ali Yildirm announced on Monday that he would resign because of his candidacy for mayor of Istanbul in local elections scheduled for March 31.
"Today I will leave the post of president of the Grand National Assembly (parliament) in Turkey," Yildirim told parliamentarians.
Yildirm was born in 1955 and graduated from the Shipbuilding College of Istanbul Technical University, where he later discussed his thesis. He worked in the shipbuilding section of Turkey, the Directorate of Passenger Transport in Expressions in Istanbul City Hall. In 2002, he was elected as a deputy in the Turkish Parliament of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) and later served as Minister of Transport in Turkey for 13 years.
During his tenure as Turkey's Ministry of Transport and Maritime Transport, he completed several investment projects worth US $ 85 billion. The biggest achievement was the risk and challenge to complete the Metro Marmara project, which brings the Asian and European continents under water, the Eurasia Tunnel, As well as the Sultan Selim I Bridge and the Izmit Bay Bridge between Istanbul and Izmir.
Yildirm was Turkey's prime minister in 2016-2018, leaving the post because he was abolished after the country's transition to a presidential system. In July last year, he was elected speaker of the Turkish parliament. He is considered one of the closest Turkish politicians to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

أعلن رئيس البرلمان التركي، بن علي يلدرم، اليوم الإثنين، أنه سيستقيل بسبب ترشحه لرئاسة بلدية اسطنبول في الانتخابات المحلية التركية والتي ستجرى يوم 31 مارس المقبل.
وقال يلدرم مخاطبا النواب "اليوم سأترك منصب رئيس الجمعية الوطنية الكبرى (البرلمان) في تركيا".
ولد يلدرم في عام 1955، وتخرج من كلية بناء السفن في جامعة اسطنبول التقنية، حيث ناقش لاحقاً أطروحته. وكان يعمل في قسم بناء السفن في تركيا، مديرية نقل الركاب بالعبّارات في قاعة مدينة اسطنبول. وفي عام 2002، انتخب نائبا في البرلمان التركي من حزب العدالة والتنمية، وبعد ذلك شغل منصب وزير النقل في تركيا لمدة 13 عاما.
أنجز خلال توليه منصب وزارة النقل والملاحة البحرية في تركيا العديد من المشاريع الاستثمارية والتي تقدر بنحو 85 مليار دولار أمريكي، وكان الإنجاز الأكبر له هو المخاطرة ودخول تحدٍّ في استكمال مشروع العصر ميترو مرمراي الذي يصل القارتين الآسيوية والأوروبية تحت الماء، إضافة إلى نفق أوراسيا للسيارات، علاوةً على جسر السلطان سليم الأول، وجسر خليج إزميت الواصل بين إسطنبول وإزمير.
وشغل يلدرم منصب رئيس وزراء تركيا في 2016-2018، وترك هذا المنصب بسبب إلغائه بعد انتقال البلاد إلى نظام الحكم الرئاسي، وفي يوليو من العام الماضي ، تم انتخابه رئيسا للبرلمان التركي. ويعتبر واحدا من أقرب السياسيين الأتراك إلى الرئيس التركي رجب طيب أردوغان.
