North Korean leader Kim Jong-un presented a gift to Russian President Vladimir Putin, a sword, saying he embodied the power of his soul.
During a reception in honor of the North Korean guest, Kim presented the sword to Putin. "When modern weapons were not there, they used such swords. This is a gift I made for you. The sword embodies the spiritual strength and spirit of our people who support you."
Putin, for his part, thanked North Korea's leader, but gave him a token coin to buy the sword, because, according to Russian tradition, offering swords and knives as gifts is a bad omen.
Kim Jong-un held his first summit with Putin on Thursday on an island off the Russian Pacific city of Vladivostok.
Kim's first visit to Russia came two months after his second summit with US President Donald Trump failed because of differences over US sanctions on North Korea.
The two leaders spoke after their historic meeting on Thursday as they sat down for broader negotiations involving senior officials from both sides on Ruski Island near Vladivostok.
Putin said he and Kim "exchanged views on what needs to be done to improve the situation."
Kim said they "discussed the peaceful settlement" and "their discussion was very productive."
Kim arrived in Vladivostok on Wednesday on a Mussafah train and told Russian state television that he hoped his first visit to Russia would be "successful and useful" and referred to his father's "great love for Russia."
The late leader Kim Jong Il has made three visits to Russia, the most recent in 2011.
بوتن يتلقى هدية كيم ويتصرف خوفا من "الفأل السيئ"
قدم الزعيم الكوري الشمالي كيم جونغ أون هدية للرئيس الروسي فلاديمير بوتن، عبارة عن سيف، قائلا إنه يجسد قوة روحه.

ومن جانبه، شكر بوتن زعيم كوريا الشمالية، لكنه قدم له في المقابل عملة معدنية رمزية لشراء السيف، لأنه حسب التقاليد الروسية، فإن تقديم السيوف والسكاكين كهدايا يعد من قبيل الفأل السيء.
وأجرى كيم جونغ أون أول قمة له مع بوتن، الخميس، على جزيرة تقع قبالة مدينة فلاديفوستوك الروسية المطلة على المحيط الهادي.
وتأتي زيارة كيم الأولى إلى روسيا بعد حوالي شهرين على فشل قمته الثانية مع الرئيس الأميركي دونالد ترامب، بسبب الخلافات حول العقوبات التي فرضتها الولايات المتحدة على كوريا الشمالية.
وتحدث الزعيمان بعد اجتماعهما التاريخي، الخميس، أثناء جلوسهما لإجراء مفاوضات أوسع نطاقا ضمت كبار المسؤولين من الجانبين في جزيرة روسكي بالقرب من فلاديفوستوك.
وقال بوتن إنه وكيم "تبادلا الآراء حول ما يجب القيام به لتحسين الموقف".
وأشار كيم إلى أنهما "ناقشا طرق التسوية السلمية"، كما أن "نقاشهما كان مثمرا للغاية".
ووصل كيم إلى فلاديفوستوك، يوم الأربعاء، على متن قطار مصفح، وقال للتلفزيون الحكومي الروسي إنه يأمل في أن تكون زيارته الأولى لروسيا "ناجحة ومفيدة"، وأشار إلى "حب أبيه الكبير لروسيا".
وكان الزعيم الراحل كيم جونغ إيل قد قام بثلاث زيارات إلى روسيا، آخرها في عام 2011.
