In a new Internet site, the first of its kind, initiated by UNESCO and the World Jewish Congress, information on the Holocaust will be available in 10 languages: an "important initiative"
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has worked with the World Jewish Congress recently to launch a website aimed at working against Holocaust denial and anti-Semitism. UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay and World Congress President Ron Lauder unveiled Monday in Paris the new site called "Facts about the Holocaust"
The site contains a large amount of historical information about the Holocaust, including survivor testimonies, and is linked to a digital encyclopaedia on the Holocaust at the American Holocaust Museum. According to UNESCO, the site aims to work against the growing hatred of Jews on the Net, and the falsification of information. The launch of the site came five months after UNESCO set up guidelines for action against anti-Semitism in educational institutions
The site, which will be available in English first and then in 10 other languages, is aimed specifically at university students and young people unfamiliar with the Holocaust, who want to receive answers and background information on the subject. It provides reliable and available information including testimonials, Historical, and special questions and answers
The memory of the Holocaust is one of the most important topics of interest to Jews in the world. Research shows that more than 30% of the world's citizens still believe that the Holocaust is a ritual or an exaggerated description of reality. "Seventy years after the Holocaust, more than 46 percent of the world's citizens have never heard of the terrible crimes of history," said Robert Singer, director general of the World Jewish Congress
