Satellite images reveal an Iranian military base near Damascus

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - US-based Fox News on Wednesday published satellite images showing an Iranian military base 13 kilometers (22 miles) northwest of Damascus. According to the US report, Iranian special forces from the Quds Force are operating the base, which contains warehouses to store weapons that can hit Israel.

According to the report, the new base resembles a military base Iran built last year south of Damascus, according to the foreign report, which Israel destroyed.

"Nothing is new under the sun, but we are not dealing with a news report as an absolute fact," said Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman.

The Israeli leadership has made it clear that Israel is not restricted in terms of acting against hostile Iranian activity in Syria and that if it is forced, it will attack Iran itself.

نشرت شبكة "فوكس نيوز" الإخبارية الأمريكية، اليوم الأربعاء، صور أقمار صناعية تكشف قاعدة عسكرية إيرانية على بعد 13 كيلومترا شمال – غرب دمشق. وجاء في التقرير الأمريكي أن قوات إيرانية خاصة من "فيلق القدس" تدير القاعدة التي تحوي على مستودعات لتخزين الأسلحة التي بإمكانها ضرب إسرائيل.

وجاء في التقرير أن القاعدة الجديدة تشابه قاعدة عسكرية كانت إيران بنتها خلال العام الماضي جنوب دمشق، وحسب التقرير الأجنبي، قامت إسرائيل بتدميرها.

وعلّق وزير الدفاع الإسرائيلي، أفيغدور ليبرمان، إلى التقرير قائلا: "لا شيء جديد تحت الشمس، لكننا لا نتعامل مع تقرير إخباري على أنه حقيقة مطلقة. إننا نراقب عن كثب التطورات في سوريا".

وكانت القيادة الإسرائيلية قد أوضحت أن إسرائيل ليست مقيدة من ناحية التصرف إزاء النشاط الإيراني المعادي في سوريا وإن اضطرت فسوف تهاجم في إيران نفسها.

وقال محللون إسرائيليون إن الكشف لم يأتِ من باب الصدفة، إنما يتزامن مع الزيارة القريبة لنتنياهو في الولايات المتحدة ولقائه الرئيس الأمريكي، دونالد ترامب، مطلع الشهر القادم. وحتى أن بعض المحللين قال إن الصور التي وصلت إلى "فوكس نيوز" مصدرها إسرائيلي وتهدف إلى الضغط على أمريكا بشأن اتفاق النووي الإيراني، خاصة أن الرئيس الأمريكي يفضل مشاهدة "فوكس نيوز" على الشبكات والقنوات الأخرى.

وأشار آخرون إلى أن الكشف فيه رسالة مباشرة لإيران وروسيا، بنسبة لإيران الرسالة مفادها أن نشاطها في سوريا مراقب وموثق والرسالة لروسيا هي أن تلجم النشاطات الإيرانية في سوريا قبل فوات الأوان.
