Last weekend, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir spoke against Hamas, claiming it was an extremist movement. In his speech before the European Parliament in Brussels, al-Jubayr said that Hamas was not interested in peace in the region, and that Qatar had stopped supporting Gaza financially due to American pressure.
The statements of the Saudi minister did not impress Hamas and were quick to denounce them. The Saudi foreign minister is interested in deceiving the public and distorting the image of legitimate Palestinian resistance, according to a statement published by Hamas on Saturday. Hamas claimed that al-Jubair's statements encouraged the Israeli government to commit other crimes against the Palestinians.

في نهاية الأسبوع الماضي، تحدث وزير الخارجية السعودي، عادل الجبير، ضد حماس مدعيا أنها حركة متطرفة. في خطابه أمام البرلمان الأوروبي في بروكسل قال الجبير إن حماس ليست معنية بأن يسود السلام في المنطقة، وإن قطر توقفت عن دعم غزة ماليا بسبب الضغط الأمريكي الممارس عليها.
لم تنل أقوال الوزير السعودي إعجاب حماس فسارعت إلى شجبها. جاء في البيان الذي نشرته حماس أمس (السبت) أن وزير الخارجية السعودي معني بخداع الجمهور وتشويه صورة المقاومة الفلسطينية الشرعية. وادعت حماس أن أقوال الجبير تشجع الحكومة الإسرائيلية على ارتكاب جرائم أخرى بحق الفلسطينيين.

في المقابل، رحبت إسرائيل بتصريحات الجبير. اقتبس منسق عمليات الحكومة في الأراضي، اللواء يؤاف مردخاي، في صفحته على الفيس بوك أقوال الجبير ونشر: "إذا كان هذا هو أيضًا تعريف السعوديّين لحماس، فنحن متّفقون معهم‎.‎" حظي منشور مردخاي بمئات التعلقيات الإيجابية من جهة المتصفحين، الذين أعربوا عن تأييدهم لأقوال الجبير، وبالتباين، هناك متصفّحون عارضوا أقواله.
