Ramadan Greeting from Sudanese-American Imam Mohamed Hag Magid:
To my Brothers and Sisters in Islam, I greet you with the greeting of Peace and Ramadan Kareem. I pray this Ramadan will be a blessed Ramadan for all of the people of Sudan. It is a great gift that Allah subhana wa ta’ala has granted us to witness yet another Ramadan. We ask Allah, subhana wa ta’ala to make this Ramadan a fruitful Ramadan for you and your families, that we each gain nearness to Him and are granted His forgiveness. We pray that we all benefit from the spiritual and social environment that Ramadan brings. On behalf of the American Muslim community we wish you all a very happy Ramadan. Alhumdulillah here in the United States, like many of you in Sudan, we are enjoying this month with mosques open throughout the night for prayer, and community gatherings for breaking the fast. Many institutions and government agencies join us in welcoming Ramadan by hosting Iftar gatherings for the Muslims they serve. This is a symbol of this nation celebrating American Muslims as members of the American social fabric. On June 22, 2015, the President of the United States, President Obama, hosted the annual White House Iftar. I was privileged to be there. This year the President sent a message of solidarity with the American Muslim. As the President so powerfully stated in his speech, “Our Iftar is also a reminder of the freedoms that bind us together as Americans, including the freedom of religion -- that inviolable right to practice our faiths freely.” The theme of the Iftar this year was celebrating American youth, highlighting them as prospects for America’s future, rather than suspects of any kind. I ask God Almighty to enable us to harvest the best of this month and to bring peace and prosperity to the beautiful people of Sudan and to all across the world.
