France will expel four French diplomats in response to Paris's decision to expel four Russian diplomats in the case of the former Russian spy Sergey Scrippal, the French Foreign Ministry said Friday.
"Russia's decision today to expel four of the French embassy in Russia has not surprised us," the foreign ministry said in a statement, adding that "Russia has so far refused to provide any clarifications about the Salisbury attack" in southwestern Britain.
"In its decision on March 26 to expel four Russian diplomats, France wanted to show its full solidarity with the UK following a chemical weapons attack in Salisbury," she said.
"France recalls its adherence to and readiness for a constructive dialogue with Russia on all international issues," the statement said.
Russia on Friday responded similarly to Western countries that last week expelled Russian diplomats in the case of former spy Sergey Scrippal in a wave of reciprocal expulsion of diplomats, the largest in recent history.
