Foreign Policy: How has Israel become popular?

An article published in "Foreign Policy" explains the good change in Arab countries' treatment of Israel, and refers to the underlying preferences of cooperation with it
"The most interesting thing about the Arab world today is that Israel is no longer contentious," said Foreign Policy, which was published on Monday. The article focuses on the radical changes that have taken place in recent years in the Arab countries' dealings with Israel, which for years has been an enmity between the Arab states.
The authors of the article show that senior Israeli officials point to the common security threats facing Israel and the Arab states, such as Iran and radical Islam, as the cornerstone of the new security agenda common to Israel and these countries. But according to their claim, there is much that Arab countries can benefit from cooperation with Israel.
They explain that Israel's energy revolution in recent years has made it an energy exporter. The big gas agreement signed by Israel and Egypt will contribute greatly to the Egyptian economy and will create a mutual economic relationship between the two countries. In addition, the authors point to the new opportunities inherent in economic cooperation between Israel and the Gulf states, as well as Israel's support to these countries in the field of advanced surveillance and intelligence technology to fight against terrorist threats.

In addition to increased cooperation with Israel, the authors of the report claim that there has been a decline in Arab governments' handling of the Palestinian cause. "Arab governments have lost their patience towards the conflicting and unsuccessful Palestinian leadership, and toward parties such as Iran that seek to use the Palestinians as a means of struggle for regional control," the article said. Despite this, the authors point out that the public in these countries still cares about the Palestinians. In the Arab Spring, governments can not ignore the opinion of their citizens. In addition, they point to other new challenges facing Israel, the most important of which is whether it should sell advanced weapons technology to Arab countries, which may wage war against it in the future, and are better equipped than the past.

"أكثر ما يثير الاهتمام فيما يرتبط بالعالم العربي في يومنا هذا هو أن إسرائيل لم تعد مثار خلاف"، هذا ما جاء في مستهل مقال "‏Foreign Policy‏" الذي نُشر أمس (الإثنين). يركز المقال على التغييرات الجذرية التي طرأت في السنوات الأخيرة على تعامل الدول العربيّة مع إسرائيل، التي شكلت العداوة ضدها، طيلة سنوات، عامل تكتل بين الدول العربيّة.
يوضح معدو المقال أن كبار المسؤولين الإسرائيليين يشيرون إلى التهديدات الأمنية المشتركة التي تتعرض لها إسرائيل والدول العربية، مثل إيران والإسلام المتطرف، بصفتها حجر الأساس للأجندة الأمنية الجديدة، المشتركة لإسرائيل وهذه الدول. ولكن وفق ادعائهم، هناك الكثير مما يمكن أن تستفيد منه الدول العربيّة من التعاوُن مع إسرائيل.
فهم يوضحون أن ثورة الطاقة التي شهدتها إسرائيل في السنوات الأخيرة، جعلتها مُصدّرة في مجال الطاقة، وسيسهم اتفاق الغاز الكبير، الذي وقعت عليه إسرائيل ومصر، كثيرا في الاقتصاد المصري، وسيخلق تعلقا اقتصاديا متبادلا بين البلدين. علاوة على ذلك، يشير كاتبو المقال إلى الفرص الجديدة الكامنة في التعاون الاقتصادي بين إسرائيل ودول الخليج، إضافة إلى الدعم الذي تقدمه إسرائيل إلى هذه الدول في مجال تكنولوجيا المراقبة والاستخبارات المتقدمة من أجل الصراع ضد تهديدات الإرهاب.
موقعو اتفاق الغاز بين إسرائيل ومصر
إضافة إلى التعاون المتزايد مع إسرائيل، يدعي معدو التقرير أنه طرأ انخفاض على تعامل الحكومات العربية مع القضية الفلسطينية. ففي حين أن هذه الدول ما زالت ملزمة رسميا بهذه القضية، بدأت تبدي علامات من اليأس فيما يتعلق بها. "فقدت الحكومات العربية صبرها تجاه القيادة الفلسطينية المتنازعة وغير الناجحة، وتجاه جهات مثل إيران تسعى إلى استخدام الفلسطينيين وسيلة للنضال سعيا للسيطرة الإقليمية"، جاء في المقال. وفق أقوالهم، أدى ذلك إلى تغيير جذري في تعامل بعض حكومات الدول السنية تجاه إسرائيل: انتقالا من النظر إلى إسرائيل بصفتها "عدوة" إلى اعتبار أن "وجودها" في المنطقة قد يعمل لصالحها.

رغم هذا يشير الكاتبون إلى أن الجمهور في هذه الدول ما زال يهتم بالفلسطينيين، وفي ظل الربيع العربيّ، لا يمكن أن تتجاهل الحكومات رأي مواطنيها. إضافة إلى ذلك، يشيرون إلى تحديات جديدة أخرى تقف أمام إسرائيل، وأهمها هو هل عليها بيع تكنولوجيا الأسلحة المتقدمة للدول العربية، التي قد تشن حربا ضدها في المستقبَل، وهي مزوّدة أفضل من الماضي.
