ارتريا تصنف ضمن الدول الأخيرة في مجال الحريات الاقتصادية
أفاد مؤشر الحريات الاقتصادية (ايكونوميك فريدوم انديكس) لسنة 2017 إلى أن كل من ارتريا وكوبا وجمهورية كوريا الشمالية وفنزويلا وجمهورية الكونغو الديمقراطية احتلت المراكز الخمس الاخيرة في مجال الحريات الاقتصادية عالميا وذلك في القائمة التي تضم 180 دولة. بينما جاءت كل من هونغ كونغ وسويسرا واستراليا ونيوزلندا في المراكز الخمس الأولي على مستوى العالم. ويدرس المؤشر الاستثمار الصناعي والتجاري والدخل القومي والشفافية في الموازنة والمنصرفات والسياسات الاقتصادية التي تكافح الفقر وحرية القطاعات الاقتصادية وحركة الأموال إضافة إلى الاستثمار المحلي. وفيما يتعلق بإرتريا أشار التقرير إلى عدم وجود حرية للقطاع للخاص والسيطرة الحكومية على النشاط الاقتصادي وانعدام الشفافية في الموازنة والمنصرفات وعدم وجود سياسات مالية وقانونية محددة للاستثمار الاجنبي والمحلي إضافة إلى الفقر العام الذي تصنف البلاد بموجبه ضمن أفقر الدول في العالم.
الجدير بالذكر بأن السلطات في اسمرا كانت قد اغلقت ما يزيد عن 1000 مؤسسة تجارية في العاصمة خلال شهري نوفمبر وديسمبر الماضيين.
