The regional weight of the Sultanate of Oman Political, economic and social components
Siham Aldreesi
an introduction
The media attention in the Sultanate of Oman increases whenever it takes a stand against the general orientations of the Gulf Cooperation Council states or heads one of the initiatives to bring peace and bring the points of view between the neighboring countries or between Iran and the United States of America to a halt later on within the regional and international political circles.
Although it is considered to be one of the least wealthy countries in the Gulf (besides the State of Bahrain), its strategic location, historical expansion and strong relations with internationally competing forces have made the Sultanate - the forgotten state - an influential presence and an audible voice for its Arab and international leadership. In the same context, it is possible to say that the historical depth of the Sultanate of Oman as an empire has long been the crowding of Portugal and the United Kingdom to the location in the Arabian Gulf and East Africa (sixteenth century), and before that its people were racing to believe in the Muhammadic message and engaged in the dissemination of Islam, (The land of safety), all this reflected on the political behavior of its leadership; and thus the historical depth of the traditions of diplomatic work is becoming regionalized through the attributes of resistance to all attempts of external tutelage on the sovereign decision of Oman, .
The strong geopolitical competition in the Arab region imposed on the smaller powers such as the Sultanate of Oman, to maintain its regional position and independence of its sovereign decision, to adopt new strategies for alliance and bias. The foreign policy options of the Omani leadership ranged from neutrality to conflict between regional powers, Therefore, the analysis of the dimensions of the regional position of the Sultanate of Oman and its levels requires studying the perceptions of the Omani leadership on external behavior, which appears to be necessarily biased to the public interest of the state, as well as influenced by the dynamic dynamics of the Regional and international scene in general.
The paper seeks to change the dominant focus of the Sultanate of Oman, as a member state of the Gulf Cooperation Council, to dismantle and analyze the dynamics that gave it international momentum and regional strength as a small power.
This paper is divided into three main axes: First, review the historical background of the Sultanate of Oman, focusing on its strategic importance. Second, exposure to the political, economic and social factors in support of its regional position and, finally, a re-reading of the foreign policies of the Omani leadership and its impact on the future of the state.
