Ethiopian police reveal the details of "killing" director of the Dam of the Renaissance
The Ethiopian federal police on Thursday revealed new details of the sudden incident that killed the director of the Nahdha Dam project in the country.
According to police commissioner Jamal Zeno, "Eng. Samango Bagli, was killed by a bullet and was in his hand a pistol", inside his car in the field of Muskal in the center of the capital Addis Ababa.
He added that the police are conducting the necessary investigations to reach the perpetrators, pointing out that a number of individuals are being investigated. He said in an interview with reporters that the investigations are conducted with the workers in all locations, which worked by the dead and all who has to do with him.
The police commissioner pointed out that the engineer saw the dead man at 7:30 (local time) at the site, before entering his office.
Photos showed by news agencies showed a Toyota Land Cruiser surrounded by police, who were trying to disperse a crowd from the scene.
Bekele is credited with building hydroelectric dams in Ethiopia and runs the Nahdha dam, the largest Ethiopian project, and the African nation sees it as essential for development, with 60 million people without access to electricity.
The construction of the dam was more than 63 percent. Once completed, it will generate about 6,400 megawatts, more than twice the current production of Ethiopia's 4,000 megawatts.
