 الحدود الشفافة في الحقيقة هي اطر نظرية لتفسير الاحداث تتصل بعودة الجغرافية السياسية كمؤثر على حركة التاريخ وايجاد منطق تفسيري للصراعات والحروب بعد نهاية الحرب الباردة ( 1945-1991) مرورا بسيل من الاحداث كالحرب في البلقان وتفتت يوغسلافيا وحرب الخليج الثانية وسيطرة الولايات المتحدة على العراق، ومتلى ذلك من انتشار التنظيمات الارهابية بما فيها تنظيم داعش الذي حرك العالم كل طاقاته وامكاناته في الحرب على الارهاب. كما تحول الربيع العربي الى حروب اهلية في اليمن وليبيا وحرب عالمية تدخلت فيها روسيا من اجل موطىء قدم في المياه الدفيئة. مما يعني ان مواقف الدول رهينة بالخغرافية السياسية وسقط منظور الحدود الشفافة المتصل بالعولمة والامركة والسوق العالمي الواحد.
 في العقد الاخير من القرن العشرين سادت اتجاهات فكرية جغرافية تتحدث عن الانتقال من جغرافية السطح والتضاريس الى جغرافية الحدود الشفافة بمعنى ان الدول العظمى، ليست في حاجة الى شن الحروب وتحريك الجيوش والحملات العسكرية الاستراتيجية  لتحقيق مصالحها وتامينها، استنادا الى واقع العولمة التي وحدة العالم وخلقت منه قرية فانهارت الحدود التقليدية وتوفر مناخ دولي بادوات جديدة لاختراقات الحدود التي اصبحت شفافة ووهمية، فدونما جيوش جرارة او قوة تدخل عسكرية مباشرة. المقصود بالحدود الشفافة الهيمنة الامريكية، الاقتصادية والعسكرية والسياسية والثقافية، دون حواجز حدودية" جغرافية السيطرة دون امبراطورية" ففي منظور "الامركة"  ان يصبح العالم كله عبارة عن مجال حيوي للولايات المتحدة الامريكية بالاعتماد على مبدأ اللامواجهة التي وفرتها ثورات المعلومات والتكنلوجيا والاتصالات التي تمكن الولايات المتحدة من خوض حروب الكترونية وتحقيق هيمنة اعلامية، هكذا يبدو العالم بلا خرائط ودون عناء الجيوش وعسكرة الحدود والحروب الخاطفة السريعة دعما للحريات وحقوق الانسان.

 خلال العقودين الماضين توفرت وقائع تنسف كل ذلك التصور الهلامي، اي توفرت وقائع تنسف كل التنظير الذي اعقب الحرب الباردة وتمخض عنه مفهوم الحدود الشفافة المتصلة بالعولمة والامركة وثورات المعلومات والاتصالات وحرية التجارة الدولة.فالوقائع الراهنة تؤكد ان العالم مازالت تحكمه جدلية التضاريس والكتل الحيوية للبحار وبحيرات النفط ومخزونات الغاز والموارد الطبيعية وفواصل اليابس الطبيعية والسياسية. فالحرب التجارية بين الولايات المتحدة والصين تؤكد ذلك والنزاع الاوربي الروسي حول اوكرانيا هذا ليس على مستوى حركة الاحداث على ارض الواقع بل على الصعيد النظري فالرؤية الروسية الجديدة تقوم على تغيير معادلات امن اوربا التقليدية باخراج الولايات المتحدة الامريكية من التاثير في امن اوربا. فالمفكر الروسي جنادي زيوجانوفا يؤكد حرص روسيا على توحيد العالم الارثوزوكسي والتحالف مع المسلمين. النتيجة الفعلية لفكرة الحدود الشفافة هو احياء للجغرافية السياسية في صناعة القرار الدولي والتنافس بين القوى الدولية حيث حدثت عودة لفكرة صراع الحضارات والثقافات او ما يسمى بالصراع الكوني فالحديث عن الحدود الشفافة والنظام الدولي المعولم تنسفه حقيقة صراع الثقافات والهويات اللذان ادخلا العالم في بحر من القلق وسط صراع الموارد والاسواق ( النفط - الغاز والانابيب) على ضفاف الخليج ومضيق هورموز وبحر قزوين وشواطىء المتوسط والعمالة الاسيوية الرخيصة.
