The city of Sousse, the Tunisian tourist city that witnessed a bloody terrorist attack in 2015 adopted by the Islamic state, which killed 38 people this month, has honored Jewish figures in Tunisia by launching their names on 4 streets in the city.
Among the people chosen by the municipality according to the Tunisian media are: lawyer Claude Schattbon, doctor Daniel Ozan and nurse Yvonne Besis. The initiative was welcomed by Tunisian human rights organizations, notably the Tunisian Association for the Support of Minorities.

In a statement, the association called for the necessity of spreading this procedure to various municipalities to include the various personalities who printed the national and local history of Tunisia from different religions, because of its importance in establishing a culture of pluralism and diversity and integrating the various components of Tunisian society in the spirit of belonging to the homeland
The Jewish Telegraph Agency reported that the number of Jews in Tunisia reached 140,000 before the establishment of the State of Israel. After 1948, the Jewish community shrank to 1,700. It is the second largest community after Morocco, where about 3,000 people live
