Trump's GOP stranglehold faces major test in four primary battles by David M. Drucker, Senior Political Correspondent |   | March 30, 2022 06:00 AM Former President Donald Trump is entering a crucial phase of his lordship over the Republican Party, with four primaries in four states poised to decide his fate as a feared power broker. Candidates Trump has endorsed for governor in Georgia, for the Senate in North Carolina, and for the House in Wyoming, plus his planned endorsement for the Senate in Ohio, hold the keys to the former president’s standing as the undisputed leader of the Republican Party. Losses in any of these key nominating contests would embolden Republican politicians to buck his directives and challenge him for the 2024 presidential nomination should he run Losses in all four would be an unmitigated disaster for Trump. “He has to notch some electoral wins,” John Couvillon, a GOP pollster in Louisiana, said Tuesday, “for him to continue to have Republican...

Umm….. Are we the baddies? ----------- Christina Macpherson

Umm….. Are we the baddies?  Christina Macpherson Reuters reports that Facebook and Instagram are now allowing calls for the death of Russians and Russian leaders in exemption from the platforms’ hate speech terms of service due to the war in Ukraine: “Meta Platforms will allow Facebook and Instagram users in some countries to call for violence against Russians and Russian soldiers in the context of the Ukraine invasion, according to internal emails seen by Reuters on Thursday, in a temporary change to its hate speech policy.” Twitter has also altered its rules against incitement and death threats in the case of Russian leaders and military personnel, as Ben Norton explains here for Multipolarista. Last month we also learned that Facebook is now allowing users to praise the Ukrainian neo-Nazi Azov Battalion because of the war, a move that is arguably the most liberal thing that has ever happened. Western institutions everywhere are rejecting all things Russia with such a sava...

Russia pledged to "reduce military activity" significantly near Ukraine's capital city of Kyiv, as well as in Chernihiv to the north. Moscow also said it was ready to set up a meeting between President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky once a draft peace agreement is in place. Ukrainian officials outlined potential concessions over territory occupied by Russia, including a proposal that negotiations over Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014, be conducted over a 15-year...

NSS releases declassified record on the cause of conflict after Kiir order The South Sudan National Security Service (NSS) has released a report that describes the links of some politicians and military officers with the start of the civil war in the country. The report is the first record to be disclosed following an order by President Salva Kiir for a declassification review of materials that have remained out of the public view in the 2013 and 2016 conflict. The document was released by the National Security Agency and the UK-based law firm BRL. The report has stood by its claim that an attempted coup by Riek Machar and other politicians was the cause of the 2013 and 2016 conflicts despite the African Union finding no evidence for this narrative. The AU Commission of Inquiry on South Sudan said in its report released in October 2014: "From all the information available to the Commission, the evidence does not point to a coup." The Commission further said the war started ...

Alphabet confirms Russia is restricting Google News Natasha Lomas In the latest move by Russia to censor Western internet services since it started a war by invading Ukraine, Google has confirmed that Russians are having problems accessing its news aggregator service, Google News, in the country. This follows an earlier report by the Interfax news agency which said the service had been blocked by Russia’s internet censor, Roskomnadzor. “We’ve confirmed that some people are having difficulty accessing the Google News app and website in Russia and that this is not due to any technical issues on our end,” a Google spokesperson told us, tacitly confirming the news service is being affected by restrictions.
