The death of former Sudanese President Abdul Rahman Sawar al-Zahab in Riyadh
The former Sudanese president, Marshal Abdulrahman Sawar al-Zahab, died on Thursday when he died at the military hospital in the Saudi capital of Riyadh at the age of 83
According to Sky News Arabia, Swar Zahab took power in Sudan following the April 1985 uprising that toppled President Jaafar Nimeiri as the highest military commander and in coordination with the uprising leaders of parties and trade unions before handing over power to the elected government the following year
The gold bracelet handed over power to the newly elected government headed by Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi, the head of its sovereignty council, Ahmad al-Mirghani, and then retired from political work and headed the Islamic Dawa Organization as Secretary-General of the Board of Trustees
Marshal Abdulrahman Mohammed Hassan Sawar Al-Zahab was born in the Sudanese city of Al-Abyad in 1935. He is the former president of the Republic of Sudan and chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Islamic Dawa Organization
He received power during the April 1985 uprising as the highest military commander and in coordination with the leaders of the Intifada from parties and trade unions and then handed over power to the elected government the following year
He is also said to have assumed power after a military coup in Sudan with officers led by Major General Hamada Abdul Azim Hamadeh, Brigadier General Abdul Aziz al-Amin and Brigadier General Fadlallah Barma Naser, and after assuming the presidency of the Transitional Council until the establishment of an elected government.
The gold bracelet was handed over to the newly elected government headed by its then prime minister, Sadiq al-Mahdi, and then retired from political work to devote himself to the work of Islamic advocacy through the Islamic Dawa Organization as Secretary General of its Security Council.
