Washington formally withdraws from the Human Rights Council because of its defense of the Palestinians
The United States announced on Tuesday its withdrawal from the UN Human Rights Council.
The decision came after the United States' administration, Donald Trump, accused the UN Human Rights Council, which was created in Geneva in 2006, of 47 members, of "anti-Israel bias and a systematic campaign against it."
In May, the Human Rights Council adopted a resolution calling for an international investigation into the killing of more than 60 Palestinians by the Israeli army during demonstrations on the border between the Gaza Strip and Israel on May 14 in response to the opening of the US Embassy. In Jerusalem, which was contrary to all international resolutions on the settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
US envoy to the United Nations Nicky Haley last year told the council that Washington might withdraw from him unless "chronic bias against Israel" stopped.
Washington's withdrawal follows a string of calls by the United States for multilateral communication after its withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement and agreement with major powers over Iran's nuclear program.
