Syrian activists reported stealing a number of precious artifacts from an ancient Jewish temple in the Joubar neighborhood east of the Syrian capital Damascus.

Some pieces were stolen in 2014 after they were handed over to a Syrian citizen who had the confidence of the council to hide them in his home, but disappeared with them. Then the old pieces began to appear one after the other in Turkey, while some sources said that the man fled to Europe Ultimately to Israel.
The ancient temple, dating back to the eighth century AD, was severely damaged by the fierce fighting in the Jopar district over the years.
