Dozens wounded in an attack on a rally of supporters of the Ethiopian prime minister
At least 83 people were injured in Addis Ababa today when a grenade exploded amid a huge crowd during a speech by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abe Ahmed, causing panic among the audience.
The bombing took place immediately after Abe Ahmed ended his speech to tens of thousands of people in Meskas Square in the Ethiopian capital.
The prime minister abruptly left the scene without being injured, to announce later that those behind the attack sought to destabilize the rally and blow up his reform program.
"Those who did this seem to belong to anti-peace forces, you have to stop doing this, you have not succeeded in the past and you will not succeed in the future," he said.
The Prime Minister's Office announced that the grenade explosion killed 83 people, including six critically, denying deaths, contrary to what was announced earlier.
According to local media, the police arrested four people, two men and
two women, suspected of involvement in the incident.
