Germany and France call for the establishment of an EU Security Council
In a joint statement following a meeting between German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macaron, Germany and France called for a number of reforms in the European Union, including the formation of a Security Council of its own.
"We need a European dialogue on the formation of new frameworks, for example the EU Security Council, to create opportunities for closer cooperation in EU decision-making," said the statement, adopted by the German and French leaders after their summit at the Mezberg Palace in northeastern Germany.
