Ethiopia and changing faces 3 - Khalid Hassan Yusuf
It is strange that the political entity called the Democratic Front of the Peoples of Ethiopia, which represents the destruction of Ethiopian political organizations that are not combined by political thought or historical background, which led to the bloc not only exceeds the desire to share power, Centrally formed a political map with duress.
It seems that former Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi conveyed the idea of the experience of the General People's Congress in Yemen, which was founded by former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh, the conference itself was the result of Yemeni organizations do not associate political and intellectual ideology.
There is no doubt that such political experiments do not create a political and intellectual horizon, and while justifying that they support national unity, their rivalry or moderation to share quotas overshadows their performance and has traditionally made it without a long-term goal and reliability.
The experience of the Democratic Front for the Peoples of Ethiopia, which moved from its former form, represented by the Democratic Front for the Liberation of the Peoples of Ethiopia, has also been the result of the overthrow of the former Ethiopian regime.
The front did not liberate the peoples of Ethiopia, but transferred them from tyranny to the last instance, the same features and what changed names, with the rule of the front, Ethiopia reserved the absence of democracy and the most prominent vocabulary represented by the peaceful rotation of power has not been done, and competition does not exceed the structure of the front exclusively!
The presence of Prime Minister Abi Ahmed to his post was done by the political pressure, the Uromo uprising, the opposition of the Amhara and the armed movements of some Ethiopian forces, which had been invested by the FMLN.
These distorted features were presented by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abi Ahmed during which the political transition took place, while there was no political change required by the reality of this country.
The issues of democracy and the position of nationalities have not been dealt with in the past and it does not appear that this will take place in the presence of the ruling front, the allocation between their organizations is the alternative to the option of democracy, which requires to be present in the political life as a whole.
In the context of the ruling party's relations with the peoples, democracy was absent, and in the presence of a more federal federation, it linked the people of the state to the ruling party and devoted its branches to nationalities.
In the context of the monarchy and the regime of Mengistu Haile Meriam, the faces changed and the time and essence were the same. Ethiopia is the state of inertia and traditional relations.
The history of the Ethiopian state does not allow nationalistic tendencies to replace one another. Although Prime Minister Abi Ahmad echoed this historical equation, he said that he is coming from this context, and that he is taking the same policy. He plays the role of inheriting the coalition from the Tigray national elite And some of its allies of other nationalities.
In this regard, he relies on the formulation of alternative elites linked to him by other nationalities, which is the same quota based on nationalism rather than the political program.
For this reason, his priority is to win the elites of the Uromo, Amhara, Afar and Somalis and replace them with their peers who have been associated with the ruling Tigray elite for 27 years. The problem is that he ignores that all the Ethiopian elites are linked to the Tigray elite, It is the same of their industry.
In sum, the biggest and real loser in the changing face is the Oromo people, who were drawn by appointing Abu Ahmed as prime minister, while in the next he will leave the fact that the Oromo and others will continue to be the same.
