Palestinian leaders killed these innocent Israelis with their words. Their deaths could have been prevented – if only Palestinian leaders hadn’t spent the past week carrying out a coordinated attack to incite violence against Israel.
How did we get here? One week ago today, three Arab terrorists murdered two Israelis at The Temple Mount. Video showed the terrorists smuggling guns into the holy site.
In response, Israel did what has become commonplace in the age of terror at nearly every holy site around the world: Metal detectors were installed to protect worshippers and the forces there to guard them.
There are metal detectors at the Vatican, in Mecca and at the Western Wall. No protests. No violence. Only the Temple Mount is different – because only the Temple Mount can be used as a propaganda tool against Israel. For Palestinian leaders, it didn’t matter that the status quo remains unchanged. They called for Palestinians to rage in response.
Palestinian leaders saw an opportunity to incite terror – knowing it would put their own people in a dangerous confrontation with Israeli forces trying to keep the peace. They had to know their own people might die because of their words. They had to know Israelis might die. They didn’t care.
Israel took commonsense measures to prevent violence. President Abbas’ reaction shows the world his true face. It is time for leaders in the West, the Arab world and everywhere else to demand Palestinian leaders stop inciting the murder of innocent people.
The Palestinian people deserve better from their leaders. Israel deserves a better partner for peace.
May the memories of those who lost their lives today forever be a blessing. We pray the world will wake up and stop Palestinian leaders from murdering more innocent people.
