Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)
Main purpose of job:
The British Embassy in Khartoum is seeking a Personal Assistant to support the work of the HM Ambassador (HMA) and Deputy Head of Mission (DHM). This is a busy position and vital to the smooth and effective operation of the Embassy. The successful candidate will need to build effective relationships with the offices of senior Sudanese figures both in and outside Government. S/he also plays a crucial role in internal coordination within the British Mission. S/he will need resilience and common sense, be proactive and able to use their initiative and judgement and have strong organisational skills.. Skills in Arabic will be helpful.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:
- Manage diary for HMA including booking appointments, liaising with the close protection team and Residence Manager.
- Manage Diary for DHM including booking appointments and transport.
- Manage social commitments for HMA including arranging with the Residence Manager, dinners and ad hoc events and the Queen’s Birthday Party.
- Acting as central point of information between HMA/DHM’s office and the Embassy/DFID and the Foreign Office in London. - Ad hoc duties include sending quarterly succession planning return. Manage testimonials sent to post (clear with HMA before forwarding to London). Secretariat for the Senior Management Team.
- Dealing with the visa queries that come through HMA’s office

Essential qualifications and experience:
IT literate, have well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, and able to work to tight deadlines with a number of competing priorities
English. Knowledge of Arabic also desirable
Desirable qualifications and experience:
Previous experience of working for senior manager (CEO level)
Previous experience of working for senior manager (CEO level)
