Obama Accepts ‘Some of the Blame’ for Crushing Midterm Losses

President Obama spoke at a Democratic retreat in Pennsylvania tonight, and according to reports he admitted some personal blame for how badly the Democrats did in the midterm elections last year.
The president talked a lot about a renewed focus on middle class Americans, and found it a little amusing that the rhetoric from some Republicans is “starting to sound pretty Democratic” on some economic issues.
And then he went on to address the midterm losses, and seemed to be taking some of the blame for how badly Democrats did:
“It is our obligation to make sure that we are crystal clear about what we stand for and who we are fighting for. We were all disappointed with the outcome with the last election, and there are a lot of reasons for it and I’m happy to take on some of the blame.”
However, Obama added, maybe the midterms would have had a different result if certain members of the party weren’t “shy” and “defensive about the things we’ve accomplished.”
