Iranian President Hassan Rowhani said in a telephone conversation with Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani on Monday that the Yemeni crisis is not a military solution.
According to Mehr news agency, Rowhani received a phone call from Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, in which he discussed some bilateral and regional issues.
After exchanging greetings on the occasion of the Eid, President Rouhani expressed the hope that Tehran and Doha would be able to benefit from the many capabilities available for trade and economic relations between the two countries.
Rohani also praised the "steadfastness and resistance of the people and the Qatari government to the pressures, threats and unjust unjust blockade imposed on Doha," stressing Tehran's determination to "do its utmost to help the people and the Qatari government for the stability of the region."
The Iranian president criticized what he described as the "adventurous policies of some countries in the region", saying that these policies were "incorrect" and that their continuation would "undoubtedly increase problems in the region, including in Palestine, Syria and Yemen."
Rohani pointed out that "the crisis in Yemen is not a military solution to it, and we must strengthen political mechanisms, to create stability and security in this country and the region." The Iranian president added that "the recent aggression on the port of Hodeidah causes the formation of a humanitarian disaster in Yemen." He believed that "the continuation of these clashes would put the poor in Yemen in a difficult and embarrassing situation and that our duty is to help these oppressed."
Rowhani stressed the need for consultations between the two countries on regional issues and strengthening the bases of mutual cooperation in order to achieve common interests.
In turn, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani congratulated the Iranian government and people during the phone call. "The long-term relations between Iran and Qatar are developing every day, and we look forward to developing and strengthening these relations in all fields," he said. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani praised the positions of the Iranian government and people on the issue of the siege of Qatar, stressing that Doha will never forget these positions.
