أعلنت الولايات المتحدة الأميركية اعتزامها إجراء خفض في مساهمتها السنوية بميزانية الأمم المتحدة خلال العام المالي 2018-2019. وقالت نيكي هيلي مندوبة الولايات المتحدة لدى الأمم المتحدة في بيان لها أن هذا الخفض "خطوة مهمة اتخذت على الطريق الصحيح".

وأشارت هيلي إلى "عدم الفاعلية والنفقات المبالغ فيها للأمم المحدة يعلمها الجميع ولن ندعهم يتمتعون بكرم الشعب الأميركي".

وأضافت: "ذلك الاقتطاع التاريخي للأمم المتحدة بجانب العديد من الإجراءات الأخرى هدفها أن تكون المنظمة أكثر فاعلية ومسؤولية".
