Austria expels Russian diplomat for "industrial espionage"
On Monday, Russia announced the expulsion of an Austrian diplomat in response to Vienna's expulsion of a Russian diplomat, according to press information about his involvement in an industrial espionage case. And the Russian Foreign Ministry declared in a statement, "Based on the principle of reciprocity, a diplomat at the Austrian embassy in Russia declared a person persona non grata" in response to the Vienna decision.
On Monday, Austria confirmed that a Russian diplomat was being expelled, after information published in the Austrian press that the latter was involved in an industrial espionage case.
"We can confirm that a Russian diplomat is being expelled," a foreign ministry spokesman said on Monday, adding that "his behavior violates the Vienna Treaty of Diplomatic Relations. We will not comment on other details."
The Austrian newspaper "Kronen Zeitung" reported Monday that a Russian, who is performing his duties as a diplomat in Vienna, "has carried out economic espionage for years with the help of an Austrian citizen in an advanced technology company."
The Russian embassy in Vienna wrote in a tweet, "We are shocked by the authorities' harmful and unfounded decision by the authorities." "We are confident that an appropriate response from Moscow will not be delayed," the Russian diplomatic mission said.
Austria is a neutral country that maintains good relations with Russia and presents itself as a bridge between East and West. In 2018, Russian diplomats were expelled due to the poisoning of the Russian double agent Sergey Skripal, like other European countries.

وكانت النمسا قد اكدت الإثنين أنه يجري طرد دبلوماسي روسي، بعد معلومات نشرتها الصحافة النمساوية تتحدث عن تورط الأخير في قضية تجسس صناعي.
وقال متحدث باسم وزارة الخارجية الإثنين "يمكننا تأكيد أنه يجري طرد دبلوماسي روسي"، مضيفاً أن "سلوكه ينتهك معاهدة فيينا للعلاقات الدبلوماسية. لن نعلّق على تفاصيل أخرى".
وأفادت صحيفة "كرونين زيتونغ" النمساوية الاثنين أن روسياً يمارس مهامه كدبلوماسي في فيينا "قام بالتجسس الاقتصادي على مدى سنوات بمساعدة مواطن نمساوي في شركة للتكنولوجيا المتقدمة".
وكتبت السفارة الروسية لدى فيينا في تغريدة "نحن مصدومون من قرار السلطات المضرّ للعلاقات البناءة والذي لا أساس له". وقالت البعثة الدبلوماسية الروسية "نحن واثقون من أن رداً مناسباً من موسكو لن يتأخر".
والنمسا هي دولة محايدة تقيم علاقات جيدة مع روسيا وتقدم نفسها على أنها جسر بين الشرق والغرب. ولم تُقدم عام 2018 على طرد دبلوماسيين روس على خلفية قضية تسميم العميل المزدوج الروسي سيرغي سكريبال، مثل دول أوروبية أخرى.
