The death of former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan
Former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan has died at the age of 80, the Annan Foundation said on its official website.
Annan died in a hospital in the Swiss city of Bern in the early hours of Saturday, according to the agency "Reuters" close to him.

Annan, a Ghanaian diplomat, was born in 1938. He is a member of the United Nations' seventh Secretary-General in 1997 and was appointed Special Envoy of the United Nations and the Arab League to Syria in 2012.
In late 2012, Annan resigned as UN and Arab envoy to Syria after his six-point plan, aimed at a cease-fire in Syria and reaching a political settlement, failed.
