To prevent dementia in old age .. You need higher education
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - High levels of education during childhood reduce the incidence of dementia at a young age, according to a recent US study.
The study, conducted by researchers from the University of Indiana and published on Monday, in the journal (Gerontology, Series B: Psychological Sciences and Social Sciences) scientific.
To reach the results, the researchers monitored dementia rates in Indiana, Indiana, from 1992 to 2015.
The researchers found that the number of new dementia cases among those surveyed fell over the past two decades.
The team found that high levels of education, especially for those who grew up in low-income rural areas, were largely associated with a reduced risk of dementia and Alzheimer's disease in adulthood.
"Low education can be a sign of harmful environmental effects in childhood such as misuse of home remedies, malnutrition, and distrust of the medical system," said Dr. Valerie Smith Gamble, a co-author of the study.
"Higher education leads to changing these negative effects in childhood through changes in lifestyles such as healthy food choices and exercise, and increased confidence in the medical system," she said.
She pointed out that "the rates of early diagnosis of disease and appropriate treatment increases with the improvement of educational achievement and health awareness, and that contributes to the prevention of diseases, especially dementia."
Dementia is a very severe condition of the brain affected by aging, a group of diseases that cause brain damage.
Alzheimer's is a form of dementia, leading to a continuous deterioration of thinking abilities, brain functions, and memory loss.
The disease gradually develops to lose the ability to do day-to-day work, to communicate with the ocean, and the condition may deteriorate to the point of lack of functioning.
According to the World Health Organization, the number of people with dementia around the world, in 2015, about 47.5 million, and may rise rapidly with the increase in the average age and the number of elderly.
