The United States warned Turkey against the dangers of its cooperation with Russia in Syria.
"Ankara needs to take into account the risks of strategic concessions to Moscow in carrying out the tactical objectives in Syria," said Weiss Mitchell, US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs during a hearing at the House Foreign Affairs Committee on US policy in the Middle East. "He said.
Mitchell pointed out that Turkey has strengthened its cooperation with Russia and Iran, regardless of its close ties with the United States, stressing that the survival of Turkey united with the West strategically and politically consistent with national interests of America.
He stressed that the United States aims to drag Turkey to support the Geneva negotiations, and to fight the organization "calling" the terrorist and the objection to the expansion of the influence of Iran and Russia in Syria.
"As far as Syria is concerned, we are engaged with various agencies in the intensive discussions concerning Turkey's concerns regarding its security as well as to avoid unintentional collisions," he said.
According to Mitchell, US policy on Turkey lies in working closely with a clear signal that Washington will act actively to protect its interests.
The US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs said that buying Turkey's S-400 systems could lead to sanctions against Ankara under the Anti-Enemies Act through sanctions and could negatively affect Ankara's acquisition of modern F-35 fighter jets.
