Academic Study of the Torah Is Essential, Not Just for Academics- Dr. RabbiNorman Solomon

Academic Study of the Torah Is Essential, Not Just for Academics Dr. RabbiNorman Solomon On seven years of TheTorah.com  Celebrating 7 years of Torah study enriched by contemporary scholarship Congratulations to TheTorah.com, its staff, contributors and supporters, on completing its first Shemittah! We now have a substantial harvest of learning and wisdom to contemplate and enjoy, freely accessible to all who seek. This is not a time to sit back and rest, but rather to reflect on what we are trying to do and whether our aims are being achieved. Our task is not easy. On the one hand many of us are part of the community of Orthodox Jewry, a community largely defined by a traditional self-contained language, the language of Torah and mitzvot. At the same time we are citizens of an increasingly inter-connected world, where knowledge is no longer the possession of an elite, and no one tradition can claim a monopoly on learning. If the new knowledge concerned only things that lay out

China is the first topic in the US elections

China is the first topic in the US elections  I have received many messages from friends explaining to me the level of differences between the Democratic presidential candidates and President Donald Trump, the Republican President, which strengthens our previous belief that the US elections went beyond being an American internal matter but rather a global issue whose results concern all of humankind in the issues of the World Trade Organization and climate and the spread of Virus Coffed - 19. It is important to think seriously that the election of a president who will live in the White House is an American affair, but rather a global affair with issues that will affect the future of man on a planet. Based on the above data, I present to you this letter form. Fellow Conservative, This is totally unacceptable. While the Chinese Communist Party covered up its responsibility in the coronavirus crisis, a Chinese company invested in my opponent Mark Kelly’s venture. China is hoping my o

©   Global Look Press / Keystone Press Agency / Dirceu Portugal WHO SUSPENDS trials of Trump-chosen hydroxychloroquine drug over SAFETY RISKS for Covid-19 patients The World Health Organization has paused the clinical trials of anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine in coronavirus patients. It says the drug, notably taken and endorsed by US President Donald Trump, has raised safety concerns. The drug’s safety data is being reviewed by a monitoring board, and the trials have been put on hold, the WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told reporters. It was being tested as part of the Solidarity international program aimed at tackling the Covid-19 pandemic. The UN health body took the step out of an “abundance of caution,” said Mike Ryan, the head of the organization’s emergencies program. The WHO move comes after a prestigious British medical journal, The Lancet, published a study on the side effects of the drug. The article found a higher mortality rate among the Covid-19 patients

Speaking to Radio Komsomolskaya Pravda, Rogozin explained how the International Space Station (ISS) is due to operate for another seven-to-ten years, and, as a world leader in the space industry, Russia should be at the forefront of whatever comes next. According to the director, it’s not yet clear whether the station will be visited or inhabited, national or international, but “the technical training should begin now.” Rogozin also announced that Roscosmos is “considering the possib

He is the author of the book, 'Midnight in the American Empire,' How Corporations and Their Political Servants are Destroying the American Dream. @Robert_Bridge This Memorial Day, America is confronted with the task of honoring members of its armed forces who died while serving a globe-spanning killing machine, while those veterans who made it home are dying from a host of afflictions. When Americans think of honoring their fallen servicemen and women, the image that quickly comes to mind is that of a soldier dying heroically, albeit needlessly, on some distant battlefield. There may even be some special effects borrowed f

Beijing slaps tariffs on Australian barley; it has had enough of Canberra’s toadying to US on China hostility By Finian Cunningham

Beijing slaps tariffs on Australian barley; it has had enough of Canberra’s toadying to US on China hostility By Finian Cunningham  The US has counted on Australia’s government and PM as minions in its long-running conflict with China. Now, for Canberra’s dubious services, Australian farmers are reaping a bitter harvest from lost access to China’s vast market. Beijing announced this week it was slapping 80-percent tariffs on Australian exports of barley. That effectively shuts off China as a market. This followed a ban by Beijing on supplies of Australian beef. Given that China is the biggest market for Australian agricultural goods, the move is a severe blow, with fears of more curbs on a range of other products, from wine to wool, as well as on the wider sectors of coal and iron ore. Beijing claims the trade measures are a result of technical issues concerning alleged misuse of subsidies by the Australian government to make its exports more competitive. But that’s doubtless a
