Statement of President Joe Biden on the Justice Department Naming a Chief Pandemic Prosecutor

Statement of President Joe Biden on the Justice Department Naming a Chief Pandemic Prosecutor MARCH 10, 2022 STATEMENTS AND RELEASES In my State of the Union address, I made clear that we must conduct strong oversight and robust criminal enforcement of pandemic fraud. And I announced that the Department of Justice commitment would name a chief prosecutor for pandemic fraud — a watchdog to go after the criminals who stole billions in relief money meant for small businesses and working Americans.  Today, I applaud the Justice Department for moving forward so swiftly to fill that role.   In the early days of the pandemic, the previous Administration consistently undermined the watchdogs whose job it was to keep relief funds from being wasted or abused.  Emergency loans that were supposed to help small businesses keep the lights on and keep employees on the payroll were siphoned off by wealthy scammers.  Foreign and domestic criminal syndicates intercepted benefits meant for Americans in

U.S. Embassy tells UNISFA to use force to protect Abyei civilians

U.S. Embassy tells UNISFA to use force to protect Abyei civilians The United States embassies in Juba and Khartoum in a joint press release on Wednesday said they were concerned about the escalation of violence in Abyei and said the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA)’s mandate authorizes the use of force to protect civilians. “The United States notes with great concern the recent escalation of violence in Abyei and Agok,” the press release read. “We offer our condolences to the families of those killed in the violence.” “The United States supports expanded patrols in Abyei by UNISFA and recalls that UNISFA’s mandate authorizes peacekeepers to use all necessary means, which includes the use of force when required, to protect civilians under threat of physical violence,” it added.  The U.S embassies called on all sides to cease reprisals and return to dialogue.  “We call on the governments of Sudan and South Sudan to lend their political support to UNISFA to deesc

House approves Ukraine humanitarian and military aid BY JENNIFER HABERKORNSTAFF WRITER  MARCH 9, 2022 UPDATED 7:19 PM PT WASHINGTON — The House on Wednesday approved a $1.5-trillion spending bill to keep the government’s doors open for the next six months as well as send $13.6 billion in humanitarian and military aid to Ukraine. The bill includes more than $4 billion to assist Ukraine and others in Eastern Europe grappling with the millions of refugees fleeing the former Soviet republic after Russia invaded two weeks ago. Nearly $7 billion would backfill the transfer of U.S. military equipment to Ukraine and its allies, as well as cover the current and future deployment of American troops and equipment to defend NATO in the region. President Biden has said he would not send troops to Ukraine. “We are becoming witness to one of the worst humanitarian crises we have seen in generations, which is why this bill provides $13.6 billion in humanitarian assistance, defense support and econom

White House warns Russia may use chemical weapons in Ukraine ZEKE MILLER

White House warns Russia may use chemical weapons in Ukraine ZEKE MILLER Thu, March 10, 2022, 1:16 AM·3 min read WASHINGTON (AP) — The Biden administration publicly warned Wednesday that Russia might seek to use chemical or biological weapons in Ukraine as the White House rejected Russian claims of illegal chemical weapons development in the country it has invaded. This week, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova — without evidence — accused Ukraine of running chemical and biological weapons labs with U.S. support. White House press secretary Jen Psaki called Russia’s claim “preposterous” and said it could be part of an attempt by Russia to lay the groundwork for its own use of such weapons of mass destruction against Ukraine. “This is all an obvious ploy by Russia to try to justify its further premeditated, unprovoked, and unjustified attack on Ukraine,” Psaki tweeted Wednesday. “Now that Russia has made these false claims, and China has seemingly endorsed this propag

Biden announces Russian oil ban, blames Putin for surging prices by Katherine Doyle, White House Reporter

Biden announces Russian oil ban, blames Putin for surging prices by Katherine Doyle, White House Reporter  President Joe Biden announced a ban on oil and natural gas from Russia, yielding to pressure from Congress to strike at one of Moscow’s remaining economic lifelines as it continues its attacks on Ukraine. Fearing surging gas prices, the Biden administration had sought to protect certain carve-outs for global energy interests in the penalties it had imposed on Moscow in response to its attack on Ukraine. But those concerns fell by the wayside as bipartisan lawmakers barreled last week toward a law to halt Russian energy imports. “We’re banning all imports of Russian oil and gas and energy,” Biden said in remarks Tuesday, targeting “the main artery of Russia’s economy.” WHITE HOUSE HAS ‘LOST CONTROL ON THE HILL’ OVER RUSSIAN OIL BAN He added: “That means Russian oil will no longer be accepted at U.S. ports, and the American people will deal another powerful blow to Putin’s war mac

The president called on the nation to use the events as an opportunity to transition to renewable energy, insisting that if “no one has to worry about the price at the gas pump in the future, tyrants like Putin won’t be able to use fossil fuels as weapons against other nations.” Biden warned oil and gas companies against jacking up prices unnecessarily, declaring that while “Putin’s war against ukraine is causing gas prices to rise… it’s no excuse to exercise excessive price increases or padding profits or any kind of effort to exploit the situation or American consumers.” “Russia’s ag

Russia’s grain shipments drop by half

The effects of the Russian-Ukrainian war on humanity. Russia’s grain shipments drop by half by aletho RT | March 2, 2022 Grain shipments from Russia have more than halved due to traffic restrictions in sea and river ports, the country’s grain union announced on Wednesday. “Before the current situation [the war in Ukraine and sanctions on Russia], daily shipments of grain from Russia amounted to 100,000 tons. Now the volume is less than 40,000 tons,” the union’s president, Arkady Zlochevsky, said, as cited by RIA Novosti. Not only has navigation via the Sea of Azov, which hosts several large Russian ports, been halted, but also shipments on river-sea routes in the Azov Basin, Zlochevsky explained, adding that only long-term contracts were currently permitted to be fulfilled. Russia is the world’s largest exporter of wheat, accounting for over 18% of international exports. Together with Ukraine, which has also stopped shipping grain, the two countries account for about 30% of global wh

Biden Announces ‘First Tranche’ Of Sanctions Against Russia, Says The Invasion Has Begun SHELBY TALCOTT SENIOR WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENT FONT SIZE: President Joe Biden announced Tuesday a “first tranche of sanctions” against Russia after Russian President Vladimir Putin recognized and deployed troops into two separatist-controlled Ukrainian territories. Biden condemned Putin’s moves against Ukraine and declared it unequivocally as “the beginning of a Russian invasion of Ukraine.” This first round of sanctions include “full blocking” on two Russian banks and “comprehensive sanctions” on Russian debt, the president said. (RELATED: US Official Suggests Putin’s Order To Move Troops Into Separatist-Controlled Ukrainian Territories Won’t Prompt ‘Swift And Severe’ Sanctions) “These have been closely coordinated with our allies and partners and we’ll continue to escalate sanctions if Russia escalates,” according to Biden. “We’re implementing full blocking sanctions on two large Russian finan

Swastikas Spray-Painted Across Wilmington, Delaware By Hana Levi Julian

Swastikas Spray-Painted Across Wilmington, Delaware By Hana Levi Julian A series of swastikas spray-painted across various locations in Wilmington, Delaware are being investigated by police in the city after they appeared late Friday night. Wilmington is the hometown of President Joe Biden. At least four swastikas were painted on signs at the Columbus Inn restaurant, a billboard on Union Street and on the Brandywine Counseling and Community Services center. “We’re extremely disturbed to learn of the defacing of businesses and property with swastikas in Wilmington,” the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) office in Philadelphia said Tuesday in a tweeted statement. “This hateful act reinforces the need to teach about antisemitism and hate. We know that law enforcement is already investigating and hope that the investigation will be swift,” the ADL wrote. “Any sort of symbols of this nature does make the Jewish community concerned and fearful of other acts of hate in the community,” Jennifer S

The Sad and Brutal Final Hours of Camp Freedom and the Convoy to Canberra by aletho

The Sad and Brutal Final Hours of Camp Freedom and the Convoy to Canberra by aletho A Sense of Place | February 15, 2022 What had been a remarkably successful policing operation, handling the one million protestors who showed up in Canberra to protest two years of government overreach during the Covid era, turned sour in the final hours. Until that point there had been no reports of violence, rapes, vandalism or all the other behaviours one might fairly expect with such a wildly diverse and yes, angry crowd. Although the crowd was unmasked, and certainly weren’t lining up to QR code in, the authoritarian derangement and violent police excesses the nation has become accustomed to were nowhere to be seen. Australians are extremely slow to protest; but with millions having lost their jobs, their businesses, even contact with their families amidst deep social divisions created by being daily threatened or ostracised if they do not take “the jab”, they are silent no more. The hands off po

Russia deploys MiG-31K fighter jets in Syria for naval exercises: Report

Russia deploys MiG-31K fighter jets in Syria for naval exercises: Report Russian media have said the Kinzhal hypersonic missile can hit targets up to 2,000 km (1,243 miles) away. Russia has deployed MiG-31K fighter jets with hypersonic Kinzhal missiles and long-range Tupolev Tu-22M strategic bombers to its air base in Syria for naval exercises, Interfax news agency reported on Tuesday, citing the defence ministry. The aircraft dispatched to Russia's Hmeimim air base will take part in exercises in the eastern Mediterranean, part of a surge of Russian military activity amid a standoff with the West over Ukraine and security in Europe. Moscow announced on Jan. 20 that its navy would stage an array of exercises involving all its fleets from the Pacific to the Atlantic, drawing on 10,000 servicemen, 140 warships and dozens of planes. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's Damascus has been a staunch ally of Moscow since Russia launched an air strike campaign in Syria in 2015. Apart fro

Emergency powers to target protest funding

Emergency powers to target protest funding by aletho RT | February 14, 2022 The Canadian government has moved to extend its financial regulations to crowdfunding platforms and cryptocurrencies, under the Emergencies Act invoked Monday to crack down on “Freedom Convoy” trucker protests against Covid-19 mandates. Under the emergency, which is due to last 30 days unless extended, all crowdfunding and crypto platforms must register with Canada’s financial intelligence agency FinTrac and report “large or suspicious” transactions, Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland said on Monday. This is an expansion of Canada’s existing money-laundering and terrorist financing rules, and the government will propose a law that would make these powers permanent, she added. “We know that these platforms are being used to support illegal blockades and illegal activity which is damaging the Canadian economy,” said Freeland.
